It's not really being "televised" on ESPN+. It's being streamed. Not the same thing.

John Brown is a brave soul taking on these Bears all by himself.

So I thought we were playing Brown University of the Ivy League and it's actually John Brown University of Siloam Springs, Arkansas?

Correct, we've played em before. Got a nice Thursday Cupcake followed by a Sunday afternoon cupcake from the Big South Conference

Curious to have a university named for a fanatic most famous for gruesome murders at Pottawatomie Creek, in Kansas and trying to start a slave rebellion at Harper's Ferry, Virginia.

Is this the annual game where they admit Waco Area school kids for free?

Yes. Here are all the promotions they have for the season:

Actually he was a well educated highly articulate man. My memory is one of his captors at Harpers Ferry was either Ulysses s. Grant or Robert E Lee.
historian

Robert E Lee.

Adolf Hitler was articulate and educated. Abraham Lincoln was as well. I think both were largely self-educated. The education is very important but what one does with it is more important. The world has had lots of well educated monsters & tyrants who did huge amounts of evil. There are far too many examples today.

Makes sense. There will likely be 2-3k kids at the game.

Bears up 4 under 12 TO. Sloppy early but kinda expect that considering tip time and opponent.

That's why it's my position that starting with a challenging game and then going to the cupcakes is a more productive strategy than starting with cupcakes, ingraining sloppiness (as all big teams do when they completely overmatch someone), thinking that is the norm and then getting hit with a really good team in game 8. All teams play these kind of games but when we face our next tough opponent, these guys will already knows what it feels like.

Conversely, I do feel games like this are good for guys like Little and Grimes to give them a lot more time on the court and the opportunity to build some confidence.

Am I the only one who loves that we do this for the Waco school kids? I think this is awesome.
IowaBear

Yup. Big fan of how the schedule shakes out. Next 2 after today will be step ups from today's competition but not by a ton. Then we're off to play two P5 teams before we head back to Waco. Good early season balance

Starting slow from 3: just 1-8.

Still lead by 9, 23-14 with 8:03 to go in the 1st half.

Currently giving up way too many easy scores to an obviously overmatched opponent.
DanaDane

Not this year, unless Jonathan can't play that game.

Study Drew's history from the time he started until now. He's always favored guys who have stuck with the program and are older. Missi will undoubtedly play more minutes than Jon, but he won't start. That's a sign of respect for older leaders that Homer applied, and both Scott and Bryce have followed with that.

Defense looks like a work in progress. Still struggling with switches, soft interior play and not very good with baseline D relative to what you would expect from a national contender.
DanaDane

I mean Grimes and Little are essentially at the same spots on the bench as Turner and Loveday last year. In terms of potential to contribute, Grimes and Little are eons ahead of where Turner and Loveday were.

Hey JohnnyBear -- an end of half GOOD possession!

That was the quietest 47 point half I think I've ever seen. Fully expect us to reach the 100 point mark by games end
DanaDane

Bears shot 64% in the 1st half, while only hitting 2-10 threes (both by Nunn). Obviously a lot of buckets in the paint given the height advantage. Leading scorer: Dennis with 9, Missi and Love with 8.

Bears 8 assists, 5 TOs.

Agreed & hopefully it will marketedly improve. Just really hopeful of a decidedly improved defensive team from last season and so far other than some brief stretches of time against Auburn (especially the last few minutes of the game) not really seeing it. We've got some time of course to work through it, especially with a few games in a row here that we should win easily.

Bet the 3 point pct heats up as the 2nd half starts and it initiates the path you are describing.

Have only seen parts of the last 8 minutes and the defense is really out of sync. Expected them to lack some energy and they do. But making this team look like great shot makers. Even with all the different rotations would expect a much cleaner defensive effort. Way way too high fg %.

Dennis as a vet needs to clean up his ball handling. You can tell he has a really good feel for the game while at the same time being so loose with the ball. Has good vision and solid skills but cannot be this TO prone. Many unforced and just a lack of concentration.
