#20 Baylor (2-0) prevails over John Brown (2-1) in the battle of unbeatens.  The Bears were led by Langston Love with 20 points.  John Brown got strong outputs from Drew Mililer (19 points) and Malachi Reeves (17 points).  Next up for Baylor is Gardner Webb on Sunday.

Good

  • Offense was fine with 1.33 points per possession.  We missed a lot of open shots (5-23 from 3) but we grabbed an impressive 62% of our misses in offensive rebounds.
  • Jayden Nunn has gone two games without a turnover.  Does he miss wide open lay-ups?  Sure, but he’s a player on both ends!
  • 18 steals, that’s a big number.  RayJ Dennis had 6 of those steals, Jayden Nunn had 4.
  • Langston Love was aggressive on the offensive end, led the team in scoring with 20 points and good to see him make a couple more 3s.

Needs Work

  • Free throw defense, the Golden Eagles made the most of their opportunities (2-2) so I guess you could say we did a good job not fouling.
  • The amount of backdoor layups we gave up... oh boy.  That’s going to be a point of emphasis in film I would say.
  • Defense overall had solid effort and maybe the shot selection folks would say that John Brown normally scores 45 with the shots they took but we need to be better on the defensive end.
  • You would like to see less than 10 turnovers especially with how well we offensive rebound.
  • Ferrell Center facilities/security, mentioned it in the game thread.  My son is a freshman and was coming straight from class to the Ferrell Center for the game.  Had a backpack as a result.  Was denied entry or even the ability to leave his backpack in the Stone Room or someplace like that.  I get that rules are rules but a lot of freshmen would never attempt to go to another game after having that experience.   We should be in the fan accomodation business in my opinion.  Common sense would suggest that a day game, there might need to be a little more flexibility with students who are trying to squeeze in the game in between classes.
