Commit Highlights: Playoff Competition Brings Out the Best in the Baylor Commits

SicEm365's Grayson Grundhoefer details the play of Baylor's commits during the 2023 season.


Oaks Christian (CA) QB Nate Bennett‍ lost to Mission Viejo 14-39 in the second round of the playoffs. He finished 13-of-26 for 226 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He was sacked seven times. His season is over.

In 9 games this season, he completed 72.4% of his passes for 1,822 yards and 19 touchdowns with just three interceptions

Tidehaven RB Joseph Dodds‍ beat Buffalo 63-6 in the first round of playoffs. He totaled 252 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. He also added a receiving touchdown.

Tidehaven (10-0) will take on Dilley (8-2) in the second round of playoffs this week.

Lorena WR Jadon Porter‍ beat Yoakum 45-7 in the first round of playoffs. He totaled 83 yards and a touchdown on four receptions. He also had one tackle and an intercetpion on defense.

Lorena (9-2) will take on Westwood (9-2) in the second round of playoffs.

The Woodlands OL Koltin Sieracki‍ beat Spring 35-0 in the first round of playoffs. The offense posted 426 total yards of offense despite the game being in the pouring rain and being without starting quarterback Mabrey Mettauer‍.

The Woodlands (8-3) will take on Klein Collins (10-1) in the second round of the playoffs.

Evangel Christian (LA) OL Tristan Santoro‍ beat Belaire 49-0 in the first round of the playoffs. The offense totaled 440 yards and seven touchdowns.

Evangel Christian (7-4) will face Archbishop Shaw (8-2)

St. Joseph (MS) DE Alex Foster‍ beat Indianola Academy 28-27 in the State Semifinals. He totaled three tackles and two tackles for loss.

St Joseph (7-5) will face Kirk Academy (12-0) in the MAIS Class 3A State Championship Game.

Lumberton OLB Brock Jackson‍ beat Athens 40-14 in the first round of playoffs. He totaled three tackles, two for loss, a QB hurry, and a pass breakup.

Lumberton (8-3) will face Needville (9-2) in the second round of the playoffs.

Corner Canyon (UT) LB Bo Tate‍ beat Lehi 63-24 in the State Semifinals. He is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Corner Canyon (12-1) will take on Skyridge (11-2) in the UHSAA 6A State Championship Game.

Mansfield Summit LB Kyland Reed‍ beat Seagoville 37-7 in the first round of playoffs. He totaled six tackles, a QB hurry, and two pass breakups.

Mansfield Summit (8-3) will face Texas High (10-1) in the second round of the playoffs.

Comanche CB Kyler Beaty‍ beat Henrietta 26-21 in the first round of playoffs. He finished with four catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came with 5:34 left in the 4th quarter as he got open for an 89-yard touchdown reception to win the game.

Comanche (7-4) will take on Scurry-Roser (11-0) in the second round of playoffs.

Ridge Point S Mason Dossett‍ beat Katy Tompkins 49-44 in the first round of playoffs. He finished with 10 tackles.

Ridge Point (9-2) will take on Houston Lamar (11-0) in the second round of playoffs.

Arlington Bowie S Kris Wokomah‍ lost to Dallas Jesuit 7-20 in the first round of playoffs. 

In six games this season he totaled 27 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.

China Spring ATH Greydon Grimes‍ beat Lake Worth 42-24 in the first round of playoffs. He finished with two tackles, two for loss, a sack, and two QB hurries.

China Spring (8-3) will take on Anna (10-1) in the second round of playoffs. 

Liberty Hill K Connor Hawkins‍ beat Harlandale 43-26 in the first round of playoffs. He finished 5-for-5 on extra points, had three punts total 106 yards including one that was downed inside the 20, and he has seven kickoffs for 400 yards.

Liberty Hill (7-4) will face Pioneer (10-1) in the second round of the playoffs.

Columbus 2025 QB Adam Schobel‍ beat Rockdale 56-8 in the first round of the playoffs. He finished 11-of-12 for 262 yards and four touchdowns.

Columbus (11-0) will take on Woodville (8-3) in the second round of the playoffs.

Duncanville 2025 OL Desean Bryant‍ beat Hutto 63-7 in the first round of the playoffs.

Duncanville (9-1) will take on Rockwall-Heath (9-2) in the second round of the playoffs.

I know I keep harping on our quarterback commit, but those are very poor overall stats, especially for someone playing private school ball in California

I just don't get that offer, and I don't think the coaches have earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to quarterbacks (or any position tbh). It would be one thing if there was elite physical upside there, but that's not the case. He really doesn't look much better than the kid that we had last year that was a walkon that ended up getting a scholarship offer from Texas state

Correct me if I'm wrong but

The QB commit is the kid from Columbus who's dad played TE for the Philadelphia eagles. He has a scholarship.

The QB from California I preferred walk-on so no scholarship (until he earns it). His parents went to Baylor

The QB commit is the kid from Columbus who's dad played TE for the Philadelphia eagles. He has a scholarship.

I went back and looked. The Columbus kid is in the 2025 class. Bennett is in the 2024 class. As far as I can tell, Bennett is a scholarship offer
