I'll summarize since the clip is 30 minutes.

Some guy named Fudge who's with GXG Advisory Council BUT NOT the GXG Advisory Group that's a billion dollar corporation that comes up when you Google the name, laughs heartily about NIL being ONLY 2 and a half years old and therefore considering it important STARTING NOW is not late. Then he goes on to say there's lots of Texas laws around NIL and instead of naming even one he shrugs and laughs and says they're complicated. He doesn't address why no other university in this state or any other is aware of such laws.

Basically BAL is still in the exploration phase.

And Baylor hasn't "lost" any recruits because when PROSPECTS find out Baylor doesn't compete on level in NIL the PROSPECT doesn't become a RECRUIT.

Ah. So the issue with losing Austin Novosad at the last minute wasn't because of NIL, it was because he didn't believe in the staff to develop him. That doesn't make me feel better

Due to the unethical way Art Briles was handled there is a mistrust of the University leadership. There were issues before.but this was.the.latest. The current state of our doorbell program has added gas to the fire. This will continue until we have at least a new.coaching staff. Trying to build on the current staff is a real mistake.

Why is the name Jeremy Fudge so surprising to you?

It is like some of you ignore all the good things that happen with Baylor so you can focus on the negative.

It's not surprising. Mega donor. Highly influential.

The "surprising" is that amidst this 2 and a half year lag in addressing the most significant and fundamental challenge of collegiate athletics since scholarships, a wonderfully altruistic donor is addressing the problem without any practical experience in the field except that he's a mega donor to the university.
The surprise is that in this late to the party "pants on fire" crisis the U and Mack and BOR are handing this off to a very special alumni instead of an expert.

If I'm the only one who sees it that way I'll accept my due humiliation and flogging. But this isn't a simple thing that just gets fixed with will power.

Baylor is a great place, but suffers the same as a lot of nonprofits with having board members run the entity treating as their own playground instead of as a business. And board members with separate agendas.

It has cost us greatly.

I'm optimistic that those in power are tired of the embarrassment of our football coaches and will push for a change. We are late to the party of paying fair value in NIL, but that seems to be changing.

We will never compete with the big schools but should hold our own with others. Regardless, NIL is not our biggest problem currently. We need to purge the cancer of inexperienced and inept coaching.

Until we get coaches that actually know how to develop players and game plan, having a competitive NIL does absolutely nothing. It is encouraging the deep pockets are showing signs of awareness.

Guessing Fudge and Dave were not interested in q.b. L always 4 star, to Florida, legacy. He wouldn't fit in RVO. Another unintended consequence of the BOR handling of the Art Briles situation. Well done Baylor leadership, again. On Senior Day are we presenting participation trophies to all for this winning season?

Like I said, he can say we didn't lose him because of NIL right up until registration for classes I suppose.

Just like we are somewhere between 7th and 9th in NIL but we can publish that we're 2nd in the conference.

College Football is evolving into something similar to the NFL but without a salary camp and with less restrictive free agency rules. Baylor needs a full time Football General Manager to oversee player contracts so the coaches can coach.

College Football is evolving away from the 85 scholarship limit era. Consider Texas Tech where 125 athletes get $25,000 a year. Now $25,000 may not pay full room and board but it is a partial scholarship for those 40 "preferred walk-ons". The rich schools can oversign classes by 10 or 20 players and just pay the ones that normally drop off on signing day enough to cover tuition, room and board and a little extra. In addition to that they can look at game tape of redshirt freshmen and sophomores that are starters and offer them more money to transfer in to add roster depth.

We need a new coach, new AD and a full time GM to play this game. If I were a big money guy (I'm not) I'd demand those 3 things before my checkbook opened.

Big programs the athletics budget is self sustaining. Even facilities generally don't have to comply with 3 bid and low bid public spending rules because even at state schools that funding is privatized.

If UT pays a walk on $25k, they go to school free after the taxpayers fund the other part of the cost of the university, like they do for every in-state student.

If Baylor pays a walk on $25k, they get to pay for ~half of tuition still.

"Missed an opportunity to land an athlete" is not a statement that refutes "Baylor has failed to land athletes because of NIL".

So that's the biggest misunderstanding.

In college sports the athletic scholarships aren't "free". The team pays for them. And since football is profitable and self sustaining that's not a problem. You could maybe say that about soccer but not football at any Big12 school in 2023. The department exchanges funds. The funds come from ticket, media, advertising, merchandise and donors. Not from taxes.

That's one of the reasons some smaller sports are "partially funded", below the maximum allowed scholarships.
