30 for 30: #9 Grayland Arnold — 409
CB, Grayland Arnold (5-9, 190) | Kountze (TX) High School
— "I think Grayland's probably — we feel like he's probably a starter." That was Matt Rhule's response on Wednesday when asked about the starting secondary with less than two weeks to go until the season. He was the only player named as a potential starter in the secondary by Rhule. Arnold started four games as a true freshman for the Bears in 2016.
— He's fast, he's quick, he has ball skills, and he has the mental make-up to be a lockdown corner. The only issue is his height, but the positives outweigh the negative at this point in his career.
— As a true freshman, Arnold totaled 20 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss with four pass breakups. His best outing of the season game against top 25 West Virginia where Arnold broke up two passes and was a big reason why WVU starting QB Skyler Howard completed only 10-of-26 passes for 111 yards.
— Arnold missed one game as a true freshman after suffering a neck injury against Texas. Arnold then had offseason shoulder surgery that kept him sidelined throughout the spring. It isn't a big reason for concern at this time, but watching for injuries moving forward is a must.
— The sophomore has an opportunity to shine for Baylor's defense over the next three years. He has the tools to be one of the best, if not the best, corners in the league, but will need to continue to develop physically and mentally to get there. As mentioned about, he lacked only the size to be considered one of the top cornerback prospects in the country out of the 2016 class.
