#13 Baylor (6-0) continues to rack up trophies in November tournaments.  The Bears win the preseason NIT with a 95-91 win over Florida.  The Bears had four players in double figures led by RayJ Dennis (24) and Jalen Bridges (22).

Outstanding

  • Offensively, the Bears continue to operate at a high level.  Against Florida, the Bears put up 1.28 points per possession.  They are now #2 in efficiency on offense and #3 in three point efficiency.
  • Jalen Bridges had one of his best games as a Bear.  His efficiency rating on the season is through the roof- 155 coming into the game and he scored a 187 in this one.  Would love to see him get more rebounds but overall, he has been great.
  • We saw why RayJ Dennis is so valuable.  Reminds me of Andre Miller from Utah who was a long time NBA player.
  • With Yves Missi (8 points in 12 minutes) and Ja’Kobe Walter (11 points in 16 minutes) in foul trouble, Langston Love (16 points) and Joshua Ojianwuna (7 points, 5 rebounds) really stepped up and delivered.  Great to see everyday Jon contribute and knock down a clutch 3 pointer.
  • 14-25 from 3 (56%) and 21-25 from the foul line (84%).  You will take that!

Concerns

  • I thought Florida was a great challenge.  The defense was good in stretches but not consistently.  Giving up 1.23 points per possession and 46% of offensive rebounding chances are both bad numbers.  We have got to get better on defense to win the Big12 and a national championship.  I think we have a path to get there, but early in the season we are not as good on that end (46th nationally now).
  • Too many turnovers (14) but I did love how the ball was shared and that there wasn’t many bad shots.

I am thankful for Baylor basketball.  Great starts for the women and men to this season.
