While Baylor’s depth at the offensive line will be a source of anxiety in the 2017 season, things are looking particularly bright in this regard for the future. With a 2017 signing class that featured seven commits, and four linemen verbally committed to the program for the 2018 cycle, the Baylor staff hasn’t extended a surplus of offensive line offers to 2019 prospects.

I ate at Cupps Drive In last Saturday. Of course the burger was great, but I was surprised how good the onion rings were.

I tend to get both fries and rings when I go to Cupp's. It's just too hard to choose between them. Great home style cookin', fresh cut and battered.

I ate at Kitok before the game this past Saturday. Burgers are great, and the Oriental Fries are legendary. Those things are one of the greatest side dishes ever conceived.

So... recruiting. Yeah.

I've never had the onion rings at Cupp's, never even occurred to me. Good, huh?

I can vouch for this. They're top-notch.

Are they battered or breaded?

Home stye flour battered, crispy thin crust.

I think some of the best onion rings I ever had were at a little burger barn type place that was on Sleeper near Lions Park in Waco when I was a teen. The lady, Ms Nowak, had a shop over on the Baylor side of town previously and that's how I knew about the place. My dad delivered mail in that neighborhood and would stop in for lunch sometimes. I don't think I ever ate at the store near Baylor or at least don't remember it. But the one on Sleeper was close enough to the house that I could ride my bike there.

She told me the secret to her onion rings, and it may not be a secret in the food service biz but I would have never guessed it, was the mix they used for soft serve ice cream. It was a light crispy batter, kinda like flour but obviously not. Damn good stuff though.

As far as fast food chains, Sonic is still solid. It's been a year or so due to the diet, but I occasionally get a hankerin' for some Sonic rings. It's the only thing I go there for.

I've been known to get a burger at another drive-in joint and then stop by sonic to get some rings to go with it.

I've never ordered onion rings at sonic, so I didn't know they were good. Next time...

They are a bread crumb style batter, a bit unique around here. They double-dip them fresh in the store, or at least they used to back in the day. Good size rings and they give you a decent amount.

I went to Sonic today just to get the onion rings -- they are very good.

There was a sweetness to the breading that reminded me of cake batter.

That will be my go-to side at Sonic from now on; I always used to get tots.

FYI, in Oklahoma City, there's a group of restaurants named Johnnie's that have fantastic onion rings. The burgers are nothing special, but it's worth a stop just for those rings.
