Gameday Thread: No. 6 Baylor vs. No. 23 TCU
WACO, Texas – The No. 6 Baylor women’s basketball team makes its Foster Pavilion debut on Wednesday when it hosts No. 23 TCU.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are still available for the contest.
The game is available for streaming via Big 12 Now on ESPN+. A live radio broadcast will be available on ESPN Central Texas (1660 AM/92.3 FM) and live in-game updates will be provided via Twitter and live stats.
STARTING FIVE
Baylor and TCU are two of seven undefeated teams in Division I women’s basketball, and West Virginia joins the two programs of three unbeaten teams in the Big 12.
With its win over then-No. 5 Texas on Saturday, Baylor became just the second program in the country to record two top-five wins this season after taking down No. 4 Utah on Nov. 14. NC State has a pair of wins from November over then-No. 2 UConn and No. 3 Colorado.
A win on Wednesday would push the Bears to 13-0 on the year, matching their best start to a season since the 2015-16 campaign. Baylor finished that season 36-2 with a trip to the Elite Eight.
In Baylor’s 12 wins this year, the Bears have held their opponents to their lowest scoring output six times and an additional four teams to their second-lowest scoring outputs.
Baylor has never trailed at halftime this season and the Bears are 57-4 with Nicki Collen at the helm when leading at the intermission.
SCOUTING THE SERIES WITH THE HORNED FROGS
Baylor leads the all-time series with TCU, 47-5, and the Bears are 22-2 in Waco. Since TCU joined the Big 12 ahead of the 2012-13 season, the Bears have swept the series with the Horned Frogs every year and have won 35-straight games dating back to the 1989-90 campaign. The Bears have not lost a game at home against the Horned Frogs since Jan. 27, 1990.
LAST TIME OUT VS. TCU
Baylor used a 67-57 win on Feb. 22, 2023, to snap a four-game losing streak. With the victory, the Bears swept the two-game series with the Horned Frogs. For just the second time during league play, five Bears reached double figures led by Bella Fontleroy’s 14 points. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs registered a game-high 14 rebounds, recording her 13th double-double of the season, and ninth in Big 12 action. Her nine double-doubles were the most by a BU rookie dating back to at least the 2009-10 season.
PROMOTIONS
There are several promotions scheduled for Wednesday’s game, including a commemorative coin giveaway and student T-shirt collector item giveaway. At halftime, Red Panda will be performing and all fans can enter a contest for the $50,000 half-court shot contest.
