Gameday Thread: No. 13 Baylor vs No. 4 Kansas State

WACO, Texas – The No. 13 Baylor women’s basketball team returns to action at Foster Pavilion when it hosts No. 4 Kansas State on Monday.

Monday’s top-15 matchup with Kansas State is set to air nationally on FS1 and fans can tune into ESPN Central Texas (1660 AM/92.3 FM) for a live radio broadcast. Live in-game updates will also be provided via Twitter and live stats.

STARTING FIVE

Baylor is a perfect 10-0 at home this season with three wins in the brand-new Foster Pavilion after picking up wins over then-No. 23 TCU (Jan. 3), Houston (Jan. 6) and UCF (Jan. 20).

Baylor’s two opponents - UCF and Kansas State - in the three-day stretch will be its only meetings against the two programs during the regular season this year.

Sarah Andrews has 209 career 3-pointers and needs 50 more to break Odyssey Sim’s record of 258. The senior guard has hit at least two from range in 14 of 17 games this year.

Baylor is one of four teams in the country, joining Kansas, Mississippi State and Louisville, with five 1,000-point scorers on its roster. Yaya Felder is the latest member of the 1,000-point club after recording the final point in BU’s 87-58 win over Houston on Jan. 6.

Monday’s nationally televised game on FS1 marks the fourth of the season for the Bears and first of three-straight contests set to be aired on the big screen. Baylor’s game at Oklahoma State (Jan. 28) and home contest against Texas (Feb. 1) will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

SCOUTING THE SERIES WITH KANSAS STATE

Baylor leads the all-time series against the Wildcats, 42-10, and the Bears are 19-1 at home. The Bears’ only loss to Kansas State at home was a 65-53 loss on Feb. 8, 2003. The Bears have split the two-game series with the Wildcats the last two seasons but had won 36-straight games prior to the 2021-22 season.

Another thing that is sad is the amount of people that are at these games, it is AWFUL. I don't wanna hear any dumb excuses because it has been done before. We would fill arenas for a game against a Uconn it was mid week, this team was TOP 5 in the NATION where are the fans at? You want bug recruits you want wins but they need you. Everyone in there is negative about everything, the loudest you people got were when the Volleyball team threw shirts and i think it is pitiful. I am not a baylor student but i am a college student from the Waco area that feel in love with Women's basketball because of BG and me seeing that women can do huge things when it comes to athletics. If you are made that we are not going to be 40-0 right now then you are a sorry fan. Look at Tennessee they still have not been able to get over the legacy of Pat when it comes to the winning ways they used to have. I do not know what it takes for you y'all to support them and you can't blame this loss because you already weren't there. Like what more could CNC do to get us to the games? We have to compete against South Carolina, Texas, LSU for recruits but we sell them and empty stadium. But men on the other hand could play a random D2 school and we sell out the arena. It makes no sense at all.

See y'all February 1st!!

After Jada's miss, we still had 3 timeouts, right? Somehow we got the ball back... How do we not call one?

I definitely don't put this loss on Jada, we just are awful against zone. Hopefully it gets figured out at some point
I think they did call a timeout after that wild shot.
You are right. We got the ball back b/c K State traveled on rebound

Winning and fan support go hand in hand. As does community involvement. I used to drive 100 miles to watch 4-6 conference games a year. Even did it during Smith and Queen's senior season. I'm not making that drive when we don't play well. The product on the court has to be enough to get you off your couch and into the stadium. I was planning to come down the the UT game but won't now. You earn fan support and attendance, it is never just a given. Granted I watch every game on television, but we must improve before we start getting upset that the fans are showing up in droves.

The thing is--Vic doesn't play zone ever. So we have a better chance than you think against UT

He might try it after seeing that mess of a second half. Shoot... everyone should play zone against us.

we were 12-0 we have beaten 4 top 25 teams, we literally had one bad road trip and now the world is falling. We lost to a veteran number 4 team in the country. I'm not understanding how we just all of a sudden are awful this year? We beat a healthy Utah who just beat number 2 UCLA or atleast top 5 UCLA. we beat Miami who destroyed NC state. I am not understanding where we are not good at to you??

i will add this past two weeks were bad we should have won this. I am just saying the fan support is not what it should be. We had a top 15 match at our place. weather kinda gross but Iowa State made sure to ski to the game before they missed a chance to support a Unranked team at the time.

I think this team has the opportunity to do great things. They definitely have the talent. But they aren't playing good basketball. It is how sports go. We have played at a middle/high school level the last two games and barely beat the worst team in the conference, at home, to avoid a four game losing skid. I'll show up when we play the level of basketball that we all know we can play. Too much else going on to dedicate time when we aren't playing like we want to be on the court. The sky isn't falling, but we will not win the Big 12 - not even sure it's remotely realistic to get a first round bye. This after going 14-0 just leaves a heavy pit in the stomach. Maybe we peaked too early, maybe we are just in a mid season slum. But something is off. I'll still support, but I will reastically curb my expectations. I know the caliber we can play, button be middle of the pack in the Big 12 is just not acceptable for the talent we have both on court and on the sideline. Gotta hold home court and win games that you are poised to win. We should have beaten the #4 team in the country. You have to finish games and you have to score.

Okay, now I'm just rambling. Looking forward to hearing CNC is her post game conference.

yeah i get that january is one of the longest months of the season for these girls but fans in the stands gives them a boost always. I mean look at the TCU game. When fans got into it they had fun!! they said it after the game. They need us, i really believe that. Like we have the opportunity to make Foster the hardest place to play in the Big 12. The students are coming out like they never have before it's just a lot empty in the rafters.

I think with the depth of the big 12 we could still play for first or at least a top team. Kansas State is going to take some losses and tonight should have been one. If we can beat Texas they also have three losses in the big 12. It's do able. I mean look at her first year in the Big 12 when we started 0-2 and went on a crazy run!! We can do this!!!

This sums up the problem with the majority of Baylor fans… you only want to show up when we are good. The team needs the support now when they are struggling… even more so.
And yes, I am a season ticket holder. It is a pain in the *** for me to rush out of work to sit in traffic just to get to 35 and then sit in Austin traffic to gun it 85+ to Waco to make it to a 6:00 or 7:00 game… but I do it. Then turn around and drive home to get in bed around 11:30 and up again at 5:30am for work. But I will support my team… as frustrating as they are at times, I will support them.

It is time for Baylor fans to step up and show support. Be as mad as you want with admin, AD decisions, or even coaches, but show up and support the students that are representing our school on the court.

Hope to see everyone next week against Texas. It will be a good game.

that was a grinder. so many opponents see this k-state team revolving around yoki lee. but in reality, it's the depth of the squad that makes it spin.

baylor didn't adjust to the k-state zone. no high-post game whatsoever. that was the difference in the two halves.

k-state was fortunate to leave with a victory given their first half performance and dreadful free throw shooting. surprised at the low attendance for such a big game.

I agree he should play zone--but he's philosophically opposed to it in principle. No way we see it. We'll definitely see it against Oklahoma St though

in the press CNC said we need someone that can pass at the high post and it is true the best option would be AB but then she also is our banger on the inside. I think DLP needs to develop into that passing role and really grasp that skill especially if she wants to go pro she will have to be that 3. What else that would help is making a mid range shot from
the top. We would flash there but nothing fell so we had to pass around the perimeter. I think Jana was not a bad option either because of her ability to shoot but she has to hunt it a lot more.

I can see why this team would have been crazy good last season with Dree Aijha and Bickle it would be a three headed monster right there!!

looked like <5000 in there last night. the corners were empty. reminds me of a scaled down oSu iba.

i need to attend a k-state/bu game in waco to see your new football stadium which looks great on tv, then visit the gym.

It was 3500 tops, announced was 4500.
Can't believe you haven't been already, you're the only KSU fan that shows his face in here.

I think you're right about Aijha being the best fit for the high post. Collen has said she's our best interior passer. Maybe then we can have Buggs go back and forth on the baseline. The biggest problem was our lack of movement
