LINCOLN, Neb. – The Baylor track and field team is headed to Nebraska for the 48th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, beginning on Friday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.

Joining 22 other schools, BU’s 24th-ranked women’s team is one of two ranked programs competing, joining Washington’s men at No. 6 and women at No. 8. Cincinnati and Kansas will also be in attendance, with future Big 12 foe Utah.

The meet will be streamed online through Playsight and live results can be tracked through Delta Timing.

LAST TIME OUT

Junior Nathaniel Ezekiel broke the NCAA record in the 600 yards at the Corky Classic. His 1:07.44 was the best in the NCAA on a regulation track since Iowa State’s Rashon Roomes ran a 1:07.67 at the 2019 Big 12 Championship. The mark does not break the program record of 1:07.43 that was set by Floyd Thompson, as it was on an oversized, flat track. The Bears placed nine athletes on the podium at Texas Tech’s Corky Classic that was held Jan. 19-20 at the Sports Performance Center, the site of the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships.

FIRST #EVENTSQUAD DROP OF THE YEAR

The first #EventSquad rankings of the year were released on Monday. #EventSquad rankings place a rank order to a program's "squad" of athletes in a particular event, using the cumulative season-best qualifying marks from a team's top-four ranked athletes. Baylor landed two in the top 10, with both the women’s pole vault and the men’s 200 meters at No. 5.

HOT START

BU opened the season at Texas A&M’s McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational on January 13 in College Station. The Bears pocketed three event wins in the men’s 60-meter dash, men’s 60-meter hurdles and the men’s weight throw. Gary Moore Jr. (weight throw) and Alexis Brown (long jump) set program records on the first day of competition.

BEARS TO BOSTON

With the top 16 marks headed to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the end of the season, Baylor currently has seven entries temporarily qualified to the championship meet. Freshman pole vault duo of Molly Haywood and Alencia Lentz are tied at No. 5 with their 14-5 ¼ performance at the Corky Classic. Brown is seventh in the long jump, Koi Johnson is ninth in the triple jump, Demario Prince is 10th in the 60-meter hurdles and the men’s 200 meters features another Bear tie with Demar Francis and Laurenz Colbert knotted at 11th.
