'Closer than it looks': Reality or wishful thinking?

Baylor fans probably do not feel that the Bears are "close" to being a good team after a loss to Liberty last Saturday. They'd argue that there was nothing close but the score of a game with a team that is in the transition between FCS and FBS. And there was no reason even the score should be close in a victory, much less a loss.
