Baylor Women's Golf Selected as No. 7 Seed in Las Vegas Regional
WACO, Texas – Baylor women's golf earned the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional, announced during the 2024 NCAA Women's Golf Selection Show on Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon. The three-day tournament will be played May 6-8 at Spanish Trail Country Club.
“We are pumped to head to Vegas next week for regionals," head coach Jay Goble said. "This team has had a lot of ups and downs this year, but with those experiences, we've grown, and I think this is a great group. We dug ourselves out of a hole this year and have been rewarded with our seventh-straight post-season bid. We are trending in the right direction, and this team really wants to go to Carlsbad next month for the national championship.”
The Bears will be appearing in an NCAA Tournament for the eleventh time in the last 12 possible seasons during Goble’s tenure. BU was a No. 2 seed in the Pullman regional in 2023, finishing fourth to clinch its fifth NCAA Championship appearance in the last six seasons, one of just eight programs to accomplish that feat.
UNLV will host the 54-hole tournament on a par-72, 7,434-yard course at Spanish Trail Country Club. The host site for the Big West Championship two weeks ago, the course is a 27-hole layout. Teams will play the Canyons and Lakes courses. The top five teams at each of the six regional sites will advance to the 2024 NCAA Championship at The Omnia La Costa Golf Course outside of San Diego.
Baylor has advanced through Regionals to the NCAA Championship in six of the last eight tournaments, earning Championship berths in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023, recording top-10 national finishes in ’15, ’17 and ’18. Baylor advanced to match play and finished as national runner-up in 2015 at The Concession; the Bears again advanced to match play and finished tied for fifth place in 2017 at Rich Harvest Farms; and BU fell in a playoff for the final match play berth on its way to a tie for eighth place in the 2018 NCAA Championship at Karsten Creek.
The Las Vegas Regional features a 12-team field – No. 1 seed UCLA, No. 2 Arkansas, No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 California, No. 6 Purdue, No. 7 Baylor, No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 9 Colorado State, No. 10 Kent State, No. 11 Xavier and No. 12 Dartmouth.
Baylor has faced six of the 11 teams in the regional during the 2023-24 season, going a combined 2-8-0 against those opponents.
Baylor is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, where junior Sera Hasegawa finished tied for eighth and garnered all-tournament team honors.
