WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball (21-26) got back in the win column with an 11-4 defeat of Tarleton (25-24) Tuesday evening at Baylor Ballpark.

In the victory, the Bears put up double-digit runs for the 18th time this season and for the first time since April 17. Third baseman Hunter Teplanszky (Jr.) led the offense, going 2-for-2 at the plate with three walks, a double and two RBIs.

In the victory, the Bears put up double-digit runs for the 18th time this season and for the first time since April 17.

Center fielder Ty Johnson (Jr.) also had an excellent performance, scoring a career-high four runs in the win and going 2-for-3 at the dish with a home run – his second in his last three games.

On the mound, seven different Baylor pitchers – Jared Matheson (Sr.), Mason Green (Fr.), Andrew Petrowski (RJr.), RJ Ruais (Fr.), Gabe Craig (RJr.), Kobe Andrade (Sr.) and Grant Golomb (Sr.) – combined for eight strikeouts and issued just five total free passes.

“It’s good to get back on the winning side,” head coach Mitch Thompson said postgame. “It’s good to get everybody out there on the mound and have those guys, for the most part, throw the ball pretty well. … I thought the guys played well. I thought we were aggressive on the basepaths. We jumped out on them early and it was a good ballgame for us.”

The Bears got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning when Teplanszky crushed a two-run double off the wall in right-center field. The Flower Mound native leads the Bears in multi-RBI games (8) and multi-hit contests (16).

“I was trying to slow the game down and get back to feeling comfortable in the [batter’s] box and seeing the ball deep,” Teplanszky said postgame. “I was picking everything up well out of the [pitcher’s] hand. Being able to get three walks felt really good.”

3B Hunter Teplanszky (Jr.) led the offense, going 2-for-2 at the plate with three walks, a double and two RBIs.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second with a four-spot, highlighted by a two-run single up the middle from first baseman Cole Posey (Sr.). Posey has picked up 11 RBIs in his last six games and is 10-for-25 at the plate during that stretch.

Matheson started the game on the mound for Baylor and surrendered two earned runs across  2.1 innings. In relief of Matheson, Green then fanned three and tossed 1.2 scoreless frames. Petrowksi and Ruais both allowed a run in their inning of work.

To lead off the fourth, Johnson lined a single through the right side. After stealing second base, he advanced to third on a throwing error from Tarleton’s catcher and later scored on a wild pitch. The McLennan transfer has been a havoc on the base paths all season; he leads the Bears in stolen bases with 10.

“He’s getting better,” Thompson said. “He’s stealing some bags and it’s coming a little easier for him now. He’s such a good defender out there [in center field], but he’s a really good baserunner.”

Johnson sealed the victory with a solo home run in the eighth – his second long ball of the spring. Later in the inning, Baylor added two more insurance runs when left fielder Kade Fletcher (RJr.) crushed a two-run triple off the wall in center field. The three-bagger was Fletcher’s fifth extra-base hit of the year.

Craig, Andrade and Golomb closed out the contest with three combined scoreless frames on the mound.
