South Carolina OL Sidney Fugar commits to Baylor over Colorado and UCLA
South Carolina offensive lineman Sidney Fugar has committed to Baylor following his official visit on Monday. He chose Baylor over offers from Colorado and UCLA among others.
He joins Montana State’s Omar Aigbedion, Ohio’s Kurt Danneker, and Texas A&M’s Colton Thomasson as additions for the Bears on the offensive line via the transfer portal this offseason.
The 6-foot-5, 325-pound prospect started in four games and appeared in 10 this past season for the Gamecocks. Per PFF, he posted an offensive grade of 41.2 with a 56.1 pass block grade and a 36.7 run block grade across 229 snaps. He started off at left tackle but played a little better once he was moved to right tackle.
Prior to his time with South Carolina he was at Western Illinois for two seasons. He started all nine games at left tackle as a redshirt freshman during the 2022 seasons. Per PFF, he finished with an offensive grade of 56.6 with a 57.7 pass block grade and a 55.8 run block grade across 546 snaps.
Fugar fits the mold of an upside prospect who needs development but also has experience in the SEC. He would likely slide in at right tackle unless the staff feels like he can improve his game by moving inside to guard. Either way the staff has shown they are trying to take the best available offensive lineman possible regardless of position which has made versatility a pretty coveted attribute this offseason.
He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
