South Carolina OL Sidney Fugar commits to Baylor over Colorado and UCLA

South Carolina offensive lineman Sidney Fugar has committed to Baylor following his official visit on Monday. He chose Baylor over offers from Colorado and UCLA among others.

He joins Montana State’s Omar Aigbedion, Ohio’s Kurt Danneker, and Texas A&M’s Colton Thomasson as additions for the Bears on the offensive line via the transfer portal this offseason.

The 6-foot-5, 325-pound prospect started in four games and appeared in 10 this past season for the Gamecocks. Per PFF, he posted an offensive grade of 41.2 with a 56.1 pass block grade and a 36.7 run block grade across 229 snaps. He started off at left tackle but played a little better once he was moved to right tackle.

Prior to his time with South Carolina he was at Western Illinois for two seasons. He started all nine games at left tackle as a redshirt freshman during the 2022 seasons. Per PFF, he finished with an offensive grade of 56.6 with a 57.7 pass block grade and a 55.8 run block grade across 546 snaps.

Fugar fits the mold of an upside prospect who needs development but also has experience in the SEC. He would likely slide in at right tackle unless the staff feels like he can improve his game by moving inside to guard. Either way the staff has shown they are trying to take the best available offensive lineman possible regardless of position which has made versatility a pretty coveted attribute this offseason.

He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Not sure how talented these guys are but for sure size wise it's looking like a Briles OL.

Yes at the very least we are adding much needed size and depth into the mix.

Yep....after getting manhandled on the line last year...even by non-P5 teams.... it's very encouraging to see this upgrade in poundage and size

Shapen probably shaking his head saying where was this??

Good and positive news. Do we have a invite list or a priority list for o.l. prospects

Still better than the majority of our line last year tbh.

Yeah even mediocre is an upgrade on our offensive line. It seemed like one of the two Barrington brothers would let a defender through unblocked every other pass attempt.

With these 4 new OLs how does our OL now look?

Better than last year, but that's not hard to do. I think if we end up with a middle of the pack offensive line relative to the big 12, it should be seen as a major win (though I'm not cutting Aranda slack for putting us in this position in the first place)

It will look like we have 4 new OL.

Having never played with each other before, expect a lack of communication, missed assignments.

Can't wait, Sic 'em Bears

So....no different than last year?

Hoping for at least one more starter. The Aggie center would be great. Hard to understand how Aranda could get us into a situation where we needed a complete starting offensive line.

That person over player thingy wrecked us. Give me a roster that's 3 deep including some "bad dudes."

CDA is ultimately responsible but Grimes and Mateo's recruited a lot of undersized lineman based on their horizontal speed and fast hip twitch based on scheme and what showed to me was poor strength (likely due to undersized) and poor use of hands.

I am shocked more linemen from the grimes/Mateo's era did not hit the portal considering the new scheme is more vertical requiring both strength and new technique.

The 4 OL we got size and strength wise in my opinion puts us into the average size of the big 12. The experience of playing this scheme and together puts us in the bottom 25% of the big 12. The talent and upside puts us in the bottom to middle of the big 12.

For overall I give our OL a below grade expectation this season for big 12

It's the dumbest slogan of all time. There's a reason that no company in the world has ever put something like that on a banner, on their website, anywhere that clients might see, etc. I can't tell you how many nice guys over the years i have seen get fired or forced out the door because they couldn't do their job. And the people getting promoted to upper management have not typically been nice guys, but there are some exceptions. in any event, Mack and overshown semi-admitted that it was a dumb slogan and are now downplaying it

The only thing worse than the slogan is how much fixating on it y'all do.

Glad they're leaving it behind, but I feel like some of you will only be appeased on this point if CDA starts recruiting convicted felons.

Yeah I never said that dude. If you like the slogan, that's cool man. It's just interesting how the powers that be doubled down on it last off-season and are now quietly downplaying it. I know Mack is not going to admit that it was a mistake, but that last interview was very very telling.

In all honesty, it's one of those undefinable platitudes that gets thrown around much like when a CEO uses the "we're all family here" line and then lays off 10% of the workforce the next day. To me and many others, it always conveyed the idea that you would get a pass for lack of talent or on field production if you could help maintain the image of the program. For a head coach and athletic Director that are very well paid even relative to P5 football, that's lame.

Now, if the idea is "our culture is important and we don't want drama queens, rapists, liabilities etc" something along the lines of "program over player" would've been more appropriate……but it still reminds me of upwards basketball when they would hand out the "best attitude" iron on star to whoever had the worst stats

I literally said "glad they're leaving it behind" -- I don't really care about the slogan one way or the other.

It's just been annoying to see so much focus on it repeatedly over and over again on this board from so many posters. Our program has had a lot of problems, and the least of them is that our coaches included a frickin' hashtag on their tweets.

It's just been a really weird fixation of our fanbase.

speaking out against the person over player slogan doesn't mean you want convicted felons on your team. I thought that was a dumb thing to say, but the Dave and Mack lovers are desperately trying to paint Baylor fans who don't like Dave and Mack as these fringe extremists, and it's just not the case

Also, I have to point out now that you're the one who who replied to this post I made that was made a couple days back or something like that, so this idea of "I'm so tired of hearing about this so let's talk about it some more" isn't making sense. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm tired of hearing about politics, and I have a hankering to go pick some political fights on Facebook

I think the issue for most people is that the team has played just as the slogan implies

This is all part and parcel of Aranda never envisioning/creating an identity for this team and instilling it from the top down to his coordinators and the rest of the staff.

3 OC by year 5 means you have no idea who you are. It also means you have not been consistently recruiting / developing / building towards any particular thing.
