“It really just felt like family on the official visit,” he said. “Coach Kevin Curtis really talked about how close it is to home. It is definitely a big thing for me that my family is going to be able to make every game. I really wanted that support system to be there. Baylor is the school my heart was telling me I needed to go to and I know I made the right decision.”
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect was the TX 4-6A Utility Player of the Year this past season as he finished with 38 tackles and four interceptions to go along with 518 yards and nine touchdowns on 26 catches at wide receiver. He truly fits the mold the staff is looking for in the secondary as he has really good ball skills, high end athleticism and speed, and he fits what they are looking for size/length wise.
He chose Baylor over Kansas State, Utah, and Houston which were the other schools in his final four. He also held offers from Arkansas, Cal, Memphis, Northwestern, Nebraska, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt among others.
Almanza is a consensus three-star prospect as he holds a 5.6 rating on Rivals and an 86 rating on 247. SicEm365 has him rated as an 88-overall, three-star prospect.
