Baylor baseball received commitments from Texas Tech infielder Travis Sanders (RFr.) and Dallas Baptist catcher JJ Kennett (Fr.) via the transfer portal.

Sanders missed the 2023 season with a back injury but returned this spring and played in 13 games for the Red Raiders. Sanders hit .242 and picked up five doubles and seven RBIs.

Coming out of Copperas Cove High School, the Boston Red Sox drafted Sanders in the 14th round. He was the No. 90 prospect in the country and the No. 6 prospect in Texas.

Sanders was stuck behind a talented middle infield duo at Texas Tech but will have an opportunity to earn a starting spot for the Bears next spring.

In his first collegiate season, Kennett saw minimal playing time for DBU, collecting just 18 at-bats across 12 games and four starts. The Missouri City native earned 6A First-Team All-State honors as a senior at Ridge Point High School.

Kennett was also named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Super Elite Team and competed in the summers for the Texas Twelve, the organization Baylor assistant coach Zach Dillon formerly served as the director of operations for six years.

Dallas Baptist Athletics
Baylor received commitments from Texas Tech INF Travis Sanders (RFr.) and Dallas Baptist C JJ Kennett (Fr.).

Kennett will compete at catcher behind rising senior Cortlan Castle and sophomore Brayden Buchanan.

As for exits, right-handed pitcher Stephen Sepulveda (Fr.) entered his name into the transfer portal last week, becoming the fourth Bear to do so, joining pitchers Collin McKinney (RFr.), Jackson Wilkerson (Fr.) and catcher Zach Mazoch (So.).

Sepulveda was tied for seventh on the Bears in appearances (15). Across 18 frames, he fanned 19 batters but surrendered 17 walks, 24 hits and 25 earned runs.
