Baylor Soccer Tabbed No. 9 in Big 12 Preseason Poll
IRVING, Texas — The Baylor Soccer team was picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 in 2024 by the league’s head coaches. The BYU Cougars, the No. 3 ranked team in the national preseason poll and 2023 Final Four participants, were picked to beat out defending champions and preseason No. 8 ranked Texas Tech for the 2024 conference crown.
Rank | School (1st Place Votes) | Points |
1. | BYU (9) | 206 |
2. | Texas Tech (6) | 205 |
3. | TCU (1) | 197 |
4. | Colorado | 174 |
5. | Arizona State | 157 |
6. | UCF | 151 |
7. | West Virginia | 149 |
8. | Oklahoma State | 145 |
9. | Baylor | 100 |
10. | Arizona | 94 |
10. | Utah | 94 |
12. | Cincinnati | 67 |
12. | Kansas | 67 |
14. | Houston | 61 |
15. | Iowa State | 31 |
16. | Kansas State | 22 |
One other team received a first-place vote, that being the TCU Horned Frogs with one vote compared to BYU’s nine and Tech’s six.
For the Green and Gold, their place just inside the bottom half of the poll is two spots better than last year’s poll.
While the Bears beat that No. 11 prediction by three spots last season, changes in conference membership muddy the perspective on this year.
Colorado and Arizona State are two new members tabbed to finish in the top five, with Arizona and Utah coming right below Baylor, tied at No. 10.
With the Big 12 tournament field set at 12 teams this year, Baylor is expected to make it to Kansas City. There is also complete belief in the program that there is no team in the league that they cannot beat on any given day, giving them a chance to push toward the top third of the standings or higher potentially.
