SicEm365 Lead Recruiting Analyst and Co-Editor Grayson Grundhoefer provides insights following practice at Baylor fall camp, notes key highlights from Saturday's scrimmage and updates the quarterback battle.
The Current Depth Chart
The offensive line continues to shuffle the lineup, especially after a disappointing scrimmage on Saturday. The most notable change noticed on Tuesday was Kaden Sieracki (RSo.) sliding into the left tackle starting role over Alvin Ebosele (RSo.). The 6-foot-9, 317-pound Sieracki had been working on the right side of the offensive line while battling with Campbell Barrington (Sr.), but now it looks like he is providing competition on the left side as well. This will be something to keep an eye on, as Ebosele has been working as the starting left tackle since the spring.
Since that was really the only big change of note, the rest of the group seems to have stayed the same since the spring. These battles are still ongoing, and I would be surprised if there isn’t more change unless they put it all together in the scrimmage this weekend. Mason Miller continues to try different combinations while creating major competition for everyone on the depth chart, especially those who aren’t performing well enough.

Injury Updates
There were a few key guys out today including wide receiver Ketron Jackson (Sr.) and running back Dom Richardson (Sr.). Wide receiver Monaray Baldwin (Sr.) and tight end Michael Trigg (RJr.) were wearing yellow jerseys.
The good news was that Presley was back out there today after missing some time last week. Tight end Kelsey Johnson (Jr.) did not go through the team run-through portion but was doing all the drills prior to that. None of the injuries are believed to be serious at this time.
On the defensive side, there were quite a few guys not spotted at practice. The list incudes LB Matt Jones (6Sr.), EDGE JaQues Evans (5Sr.), DL Devontae Tezino (RSo.), DL Trent Thomas (RFr.), DL Brendan Bett (So.) and DL Tonga Lolohea (RJr.). Only Bett was a newly added name to the list of practice omissions.
Saturday Scrimmage Notes
- The defense won the day and was way ahead of the offense, which seems to happen every year. The defense is always ahead of the offense during scrimmage No. 1, but after last season, it would be nice to see the offense take it to the defense in one of these next two scrimmages before the season begins. I heard the offense only scored once during the entire scrimmage. Hopefully, that shifts some this week.
- The defensive line is a little banged up right now as Tonga Lolohea (RJr.), Devonte Tezino (RSo.) and Trent Thomas (RFr.) are all dealing with various injuries. They still had a great day and were probably the best overall unit. Again, how much is that them playing really well or the offensive line struggling? I think that is still up for debate, but overall, the pieces are there for the defensive line, and they continue to impress.
- The offensive line is mixing in a ton of players. Up to 10 guys getting reps with the 1's and 2's. That position is just a complete open competition right now so my question continues to be, will they find a quality five?
- Elinus Noel III (5Sr.), Keaton Thomas (RSo.) and Carl Williams IV (So.) continue to be mentioned for a reason.
- I think the staff wants a quarterback decision made after next weekend. It feels like things are trending in that direction, and that is what the staff is hoping for, but this race has stayed close.
- From what I can tell quarterback Sawyer Robertson (RJr.) has been more efficient in the pocket and on scripted reads. He is running the offense well and has been since the spring. Dequan Finn (6Sr.) is winning on the "play breaks down" type stuff. He can get outside the pocket and make plays with his arm or legs at a high level. His legs are a difference-maker for the offensive line and the offense. Overall, it’s been a good competition and two guys with different strengths, which has seemed to make things difficult when it comes to making a decision.
- I still think Finn will be named the starting quarterback, and it could happen as soon as this week.
