Men's Tennis Duo Wins ITA Doubles National Summer Championships
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A duo that Baylor men’s tennis didn’t know it needed in Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Marko Miladinović came out on top at the ITA National Summer Championships as the men’s doubles champions on Tuesday afternoon.
Because of their success, the two rising seniors for the Bears earned main draw wild cards into one of the biggest qualifier tournaments for the NCAA Fall Individual Championships, which will be hosted at Baylor in November.
THE RUNDOWN
The duo faced off against competitors from three different universities, including Wichita State, Florida State and Texas A&M, to take their title. This was their first time playing together as doubles partners.
In the semifinal round, Poulsen and Miladinović rallied from falling deep in the first set to win the match in three, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7, and advance to the finals.
In the final championship match, the Bears swept against their Texas A&M opponents, crowning them victorious after a 6-4, 6-2 win.
Both Poulsen and Miladinović also competed in the singles draw, making it to the quarterfinals.
The Bears will now return to Waco to begin preparing for the fall season, which includes Baylor as a host site for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Champions from Nov. 19-24.
