In the Web: What 'They' are Saying about Baylor in Week 5

Up to this point in the season, things were relatively calm surrounding Baylor, but after Saturday night’s debacle in Boulder, the media-feeding frenzy around the Bears came to life. You couldn’t have scripted a more compelling series of events, as Colorado had not one but two Hail Mary opportunities against Baylor to take the game to overtime.

After a blown defensive assignment by Baylor, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders (Sr.) hit LaJohntay Wester (Sr.) in the end zone to keep the game alive after regulation. The Bears had defenders just blatantly standing idle in the end zone watching the throw unfold, while they could have come up to make a play on the ball or not lined up as deep in the first place.

It’s one of those plays that everyone has an opinion on, and rightfully so, which is exactly what social media thrives on. One person who was particularly baffled was former Rice quarterback and current college football analyst Taylor McHargue.

During the postgame press conference, head coach Dave Aranda addressed the play and said that the defense his team was in during the Hail Mary was known as the ‘Victory Cigar.’ This is one of those moments where Aranda’s blunt honesty would come back to bite him, as the internet had a field day.

Despite the outcome, Baylor played the best overall game I’ve seen from them in at least two years. At the end of the day, Colorado’s stars rose to the occasion, while Baylor’s lack of alpha dogs with a killer instinct reared its ugly head.

Former Baylor Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III touched on both facets of Saturday’s game, first with the praise for the fantastic game played by the Bears and Buffs, and secondly on the fan reactions to calling for Aranda to be fired.

Baylor (2-2, 0-1) will have an opportunity to get back in the win column this week as they welcome a red-hot BYU (4-0, 1-0) squad to McLane Stadium on Saturday. The Cougars are coming off an impressive 38-9 shellacking of No. 13 Kansas State in Provo, where their defense and special teams were the difference maker.

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and will be televised nationally on FS1. Be sure to tune into our 365 Sports pregame show on YouTube and KWTX from 9-10:30 a.m.

RGIII has a better perspective than the boo-birds on this board.

There is nothing wrong with criticizing CDA and the coaches. But it goes too far when that awful loss is treated as the end of the world and spewing vitriol becomes the theme of posts.

The true measure of this team is not how they got knocked down, but what they do now to get back up.

I like RG3... But he's a media head.

He's not going to waste an opportunity to hype Colorado and get their fans' clicks. He's also not going to trash talk Baylor ever (even if it deserves it).

I don't worship everything RGIII says I guess. Notice that he seems to blame the players towards the end of that post. I don't know why it's cool to blame the players but the coach is completely above reproach

Nothing is players fault in college..this isn't MLB..if they can't execute or are too dumb to follow instructions..who brought em here?

Good point. RGIII is just trying to be verbally supportive. I get it, he has a statue outside the stadium. But I highly doubt he's as connected to the program as people think. It's not like they are calling him up asking for his advice on hiring/firing decisions

The true measure of this team or any team in any sport is the final score of each game and the standings at the end of the season.
I'll cheer for the Bears and wear my green but the singular metric for team sports is W or L.
It's why they make the scoreboard so big.

Let's hope the team gets a W this Saturday.

Untrue. We had a couple decent wins last year and in 2022 we won in Ames, Lubbock & Norman. All 3 were dramatic and stunning in their way in places not easy on road teams. It was only our second win in Norman ever.

What was our records at the end of the year? Remind me please. And what good wins did we have in 2023? Below .500 UCF and a really bad 3 win Cincinnati team, oh and don't forget LIU!

The fans might not have been enthusiastic but the team was pumped enough to get road wins, especially in 2022.

Objectively false. We didn't beat a single team last year that finished with a winning record. These are the facts.

You're allowed to be positive, but your positive vibes don't beat the cold hard facts

I was talking mainly about the road wins in 2022.
