Postgame Podcast & Thoughts: No. 8 Baylor 72, No. 16 Arkansas 67

Positives:

  • The Bears never trailed in this game. The zone was reminiscent of Baylor at Kentucky in 2012-13, which broke Calipari’s 55-game home winning streak. Arkansas didn’t do a great job attacking it.
  • Much better effort on the glass. Big rebounding outputs from Norchad Omier (12), VJ Edgecombe (8) and Jalen Celestine (5). The Bears held a good offensive-rebounding team to only 34% of their misses. That’s a good number, especially given how many bricks Arkansas has laid.
  • You like the eight turnover number. John Calipari's teams love to put pressure on the ball. DJ Wagner (So.) was good in this area, but it didn’t rattle the Bears much.
  • Huge bounce back after getting their teeth kicked in by Gonzaga earlier in the week.
  • Big performances from Jayden Nunn (16 points and three steals) and Omier (15 points and 12 rebounds). Edgecombe also stuffed the stat sheet (11 points, eight rebounds and five assists)
  • Five guys in double figures:  Nunn (16), Omier (15), Roach (13), Edgecombe (11), Wright (10)

Needs Work:

  • Three-point shooting improved (7-24 vs. 3-23), but it is still a work in progress.
  • Free throw shooting (11-17). The Bears left some points on the table.
  • Offensive rebounding (27%). Baylor is usually over 40% in this area.
