West Virginia has a really bad defense.

They have been for several years now. Since finishing with the 31st defense per FEI in 2021, they’ve finished 87th, 52nd and now 79th.

Struggling In the Portal Era 

I think it’s mostly a talent issue, and the transfer portal has really hurt them. WVU has an interesting recruiting footprint. Their home state doesn’t produce much FBS talent, so they rely a lot on the Pennsylvania/Maryland/Virginia area.
