Underrated Performer for Baylor against Houston: Palmer Williams

It took a complete team effort for Baylor (7-4, 5-3) to avoid the upset on Saturday in Houston and extend its current winning streak to five games with a 20-10 victory over the Cougars (4-7, 3-5).

The Bears struggled to move the ball against Houston’s defense and were riddled with three uncharacteristic turnovers, while their defense forced a season-high four turnovers of their own.

After careful consideration, this week’s underrated performer for Baylor is punter Palmer Williams (So.). In a game where field position played such a pivotal role, having Williams’ leg benefited the Bears all night.

The Bears used Williams to flip the field on four different occasions, and he averaged 45 yards per attempt, with one punt downed inside the 20-yard line.

Following back-to-back sacks by Houston on Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson (RJr.) in the middle of the third quarter, Williams booted a 57-yard punt that set the Cougars offense up at their own 20 following a penalty. It was the 19th punt of 50+ yards for him this season.

Williams is also tied for fifth in Baylor history for 50-yard punts in a season (20) and has 26 during his career. Baylor will likely need another big performance from the Big 12’s leading punter next week as they try to pin a dynamic Kansas offense as deep as possible, as often as possible.
