Baylor Baksetball's Omier Claims Big 12 Player of the Week Honors
WACO, Texas – Baylor senior forward Norchad Omier was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week after his monster performance at the Continental Tire Baha Mar Bahamas Championship last week.
Four times named the Sunbelt Player of The Week, Monday marks Omier’s first Big 12 weekly award after he averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds against No. 22 St. John’s and No. 11 Tennessee.
Playing in the event for a second-straight year, Omier earned his way onto the all-tournament team, upping his NCAA-leading career double-double count to 72 in the process. Helping Baylor overcome its largest halftime deficit since 2016, Omier was a force inside for BU against the Johnnies, pouring in 19 second-half points to go along with his seven rebounds, helping the Bears get the game to overtime, where they would eventually win it after 10 extra minutes of play.
The first player since Epke Udoh in 2009 with four double-doubles in his first six games at Baylor, Omier was back at it against the No. 11 Volunteers with a team-high 22 points and 10 more rebounds. Needing a second-half spark, Omier scored 13 of Baylor's first 16 points out of the locker room, finishing the game 8-of-10 from the field and helping the Bears outscore the Vols 42-30 over the final 20 minutes.
One of three active players with 1,500 points and 1,000+ rebounds, Omier is the first Bear to win Big 12 Player of the Week since Jayden Nunn on Feb. 19, 2024, and the 32nd different BU player to win Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
Omier and the Bears will return to the court Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. to face New Orleans in a matinee before the Thanksgiving break.
