Auburn Quarterback and Former Top-50 Prospect Walker White Sets Baylor Visit

December 18, 2024

Auburn quarterback Walker White is scheduled to take an official visit to Baylor starting on Friday.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect redshirted this past season but saw some action in a win over UL-Monroe, completing two passes for 18 yards.

White was a consensus four-star prospect and top 100 recruit in the 2024 class. 247Sports had him rated as the No. 41 prospect in the nation and the No. 5 quarterback in the class.

During his high school career, White threw for 6,740 yards with 80 touchdowns and 26 interceptions while competing 56.7% of his passes. He also added 1,842 yards and 30 touchdowns on the ground.

During his high school recruitment, he received offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Pitt, TCU and Texas A&M, among others.

Former Baylor quarterbacks coach Shawn Bell made him a priority in the class, but White ultimately chose Auburn over Clemson and Baylor.

Baylor currently has three quarterbacks on scholarship: redshirt senior Sawyer Robertson, redshirt freshman Nate Bennett and true freshman Edward Griffin.

It seemed like Baylor would take a backup quarterback out of the portal, but this move suggests the staff is targeting a guy who will be the future of the position.

White has four years of eligibility remaining.

Kid is too good to pass up if you can get him. BU recruited him pretty hard but the RVO offense was too run heavy at the time.

I had thought it odd at the time when he chose to play for creepy Hugh Freeze over leaving his mark at Baylor. But we'll gladly take him now!

They play in the Arkansas 6a division. I don't know enough about Arkansas high school football to tell you how that would compare to Texas high school football

Yep, very poor wingspan.

Assuming Robertson is coming back (and I haven't seen anything so far to indicate he isn't) I'll be surprised if we land this guy because portal transfers like this - especially at the QB position - normally want to go somewhere that they're virtually guaranteed to start. Hopefully I'll be surprised.

He was essentially like third or fourth string at Auburn this year, and his parents wanted him to redshirt from what I read. I doubt he will expect to start this year. We got Robertson from Mississippi State, and he didn't start right away. Ultimately, you never know when injuries are going to happen. He could very easily come in and back up Robertson and finish the season as the starter. Who knows

He's got four years of eligibility. He could come in next year as Sawyer plays his final year, learn the offense and be at the helm for at least 2 full seasons. He's not going anywhere as a Redshirt Freshman and being given the starting job, unless it's a G5 school. Even Arch Manning is sitting right now.

This would mean disaster, since Robertson has the 5th best QBR this year, for Robertson to not finish the season on the field. I would not give up so easily on Edward Griffin as he is a Robertson clone in skills. Add 20 pounds to him and you got our starter for the next four years.

Yeah it would be bad. Point is, injuries happen, and we would be really foolish not to take the former number five 247 composite quarterback that was viewed by many Auburn fans as the heir apparent of their program. Maybe Edward Griffin will be great, but I don't know why we would feel significantly better about him than White. Both are pretty unproven

Because I have seen one of the two play over multiple games. I Don't get too excited over many players…the last time was a kid at Lamar HS in Arlington named Jeremy Wariner…and he turned out to be gold.

To me, competition is always a good thing. Bring in as many good players as you can and let the competition decide who plays/stays. If guys leave because they're afraid of competition, they probably weren't guys you were going to be winning championships with anyway.

And unlike a lot of blue blood programs, Dave isn't going to go out every off-season and try to find another four or five star quarterback to bring in. I would bet that if White comes here, our quarterback room for 2026 is almost certainly going to be him, Griffin, Bennett, and Murphy if he ends up signing. This isn't a UT quarterback situation where Manning is the obvious heir apparent

For starting QB positions P4 schools are looking for guys who have started and played at either P4 or G5 schools, not some kid who basically played 1 quarter the entire year and has thrown only 5 passes. Otherwise they're looking for kids like this who have plenty of time left and are willing to accept the fact they are likely to be a backup for the first year.

If he was actually looking to start he would have stayed at Auburn where he had a much higher probability of beating out Arnold or the 5 star high school kid than he would SR. So that tells me he realizes he will likely have to sit a year wherever he goes. Biggest threat would be Arkansas but Pittman's not going into the SEC battle with a kid who has only played a quarter given the pressure Pittman's under. Taylen Green will be starter again there.

This guy is in a similar situation to Robertson. Super talented and highly thought of out of high school with limited experience and multiple years to prove himself.

If you're not getting one of the handful of can't-miss guys in a class, I actually prefer this route. I still like seeing guys develop and work their way into prominent roles. And there are still players willing to do that.

Agree. I think this will become the natural path for most ACC and Big 12 schools. SEC and B1G are likely to snap up the highest rated HS recruits with the NIL packages most can offer. ACC and Big 12 will be in a position on the 2nd go around to get them or even some of the productive first year kids who show potential but aren't wanting to continue to sit at the SEC/B1G.

Obviously a different sport but kinda reminds me of Drew's brilliance when he identified a strategic way to use the existing system at hand with his redshirt, practice and then play, which resulted in a Natty and appeared to be set to continue a successful run until transfer portal/NIL came into effect. I suspect the most successful ACC and Big 12 programs will be the ones who are the fastest to identify any strategic loopholes offered by the transfer portal/NIL era as well as continued talent identification of under-the-radar high school kids.

This.

Announcements of transfer signings have tended to occur promptly after visits. But not so with WW. This makes me wonder if he's shopping for a better NIL deal than Baylor offered him?
