Baylor Women's Tennis Picked Second in Big 12 Preseason Poll
IRVING, Texas – Baylor women’s tennis was picked second in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league coaches and announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Big 12 office.
Baylor, whose 17-13 campaign in the 2023-24 season ended in a nail-biting NCAA first-round loss to LSU, returns six players to the roster for the fresh 2024-25 slate.
Among the newcomers, freshmen Na Dong and Wenfei Yu check in at 76th and 118th, respectively in singles. Third-year Bear Liubov Kostenko paired up with Texas Tech transfer Cristina Tiglea for an appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship and will open the season at No. 13.
The season begins on January 19 at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center as BU hosts Harvard at 11 a.m. After playing through the non-conference slate and the new 16-team league schedule that features 14 Big 12 foes, Baylor will again host the Big 12 Championship in April and the final site of the NCAA Team Championship at the Hurd Tennis Center in May.
The Bears’ second-place point tally is the best since the 2022 season when they were also picked as the league runners-up and matches 2013 as the second-best in program history. BU was picked as preseason favorites in the 2012, 2014 and 2015 seasons.
All home matches, with the exception of the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments, are free for fans to attend. Tickets for post season tournaments will be on sale as we near each event through the Baylor Athletics Ticket Office.
