Ohio State Cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt Commits to Baylor

Ohio State cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt has committed to Baylor following his official visit this week. He becomes the first cornerback addition for the Bears this transfer portal cycle and the first overall commitment for new Baylor cornerbacks coach Paul Gonzales.

TRANSFER PORTAL COMMITMENT LIST

The 6-foot-0, 190-pound prospect redshirted as a true freshman in 2023 before becoming a big part of the Buckeyes special teams unit in 2024. He ended his career with the Buckeyes with just four total tackles and six defensive snaps.

Simpson-Hunt was a consensus four-star prospect and top 100 recruit in the 2023 class. His highest ranking came on On3, which listed him as the No. 36 overall prospect.

He held an elite offer list from Ohio State, Baylor, LSU, Alabama, Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Florida, Nebraska, TCU and Texas Tech, among others.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Another young man who wants to escape the cold and come home. I'm sure running off to Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, seemed great until winter sets in and mom's cooking is missed. Hope becomes a huge success at Baylor.

Big pick up! Cornerback coaching wasn't great, but I thought the talent at the position in general left a lot to be desired. Thornton is really the only young cornerback that I feel decent about, and he apparently has grade issues

Off the field, Simpson-Hunt has shown his speed on the track with a 10.65-second 100-meter dash and 22.12-second 200-meter dash. He has also been clocked running a 4.38 40-yard dash.

Sic'em can likely confirm, but I suspect he will be by far the highest rated (out of high school) cornerback to play for Baylor since recruiting rankings started. By comparison, Snaxx was I believe the highest rated CB on campus last year and was around #32 in the country. Hunt is around #6. The greatest modern Baylor CB Xavien Howard (and only recent NFL star CB) was ranked well over #100 out of high school. Continues incredible upward trend in recruiting, and continues the trend of Baylor landing many elite targets in transfer portal.
