Head coach Nicki Collen on losing to No. 9 TCU over the weekend:
Head coach Nicki Collen on center Aaronette Vonleh (Sr.) needing to play better:
Head coach Nicki Collen on what Aliyah Matharu (Sr.) brought to the table against No. 9 TCU:
Bella is a puzzle - I posted on a PM with a friend several weeks ago that she has changed her 3 ball shot for some reason. She had a beautiful set shot Freshman and Sophmore year - set her feet, squared up with the basket and smooth release stroke and follow through - bottom of the basket but towards the end of her Sophmore year she changed to a jump shot where she jackknifes her ass out. She launches the ball instead of shooting it. I do not think it a coincidence that her 4 ball % has dropped steadily. She added an additional element to her shot that means additional part that has to be in cinque. WHY ? I always go by if it ain't broke why fix it !!!blackie said:
A few quick points......
- Was glad to see that in several occasions Vonleh took steps to avoid fouling when she was not in the best position to defend.
- I know they want her to continue to shoot in hopes the touch and mindset come back, but I had just not see Bella to continue to shoot the three (1-9) with any volume. It is gotten to the point, where it is likely just going to effectively be a turnover.
- FREE THROWS. I know coach is frustrated with it. She has thrown out a comment more than once about it. I just don't understand how you play the game and not at least be 70% or better......and many teams are better. I think I heard we were last in the league. If so, I believe it. I know you would take a lot of ridicule, but just switching to the "granny shot" would probably add 20% or more accuracy for just about any player.
- Matharu starting to come along.
I've noticed the Bella offensive regression as well but didn't notice the changed shot. I think she has bulked up some and maybe that is playing a role. She continues to hustle and is one of our better defenders for sure. She is quick to the bucket and tends to finish well. You would think they could watch old film and return her to her original shooting style. More offensive production from her would be most welcome.blueeyedbear said:Bella is a puzzle - I posted on a PM with a friend several weeks ago that she has changed her 3 ball shot for some reason. I am more concerned with her decision making on drives and passes - I do not recognize Freshman Bella anymore. Its evident on tape - surely someone sees what is going on ?????
