No. 19 Arizona (18-8, 12-3) out-toughed Baylor (16-10, 8-7), 74-67, in front of a strong late-night crowd at Foster Pavilion in Waco. The Bears travel to Colorado and Cincinnati next week to try and establish some momentum heading into the postseason.

Good

  • VJ Edgecombe (Fr.) is unstoppable when he’s going downhill toward the rim. He ended up with 24 points on 13 shot attempts.
  • Death, taxes and a Norchad Omier (5Sr.) double-double. He gave Baylor a shot with his tough play on the glass (15 points, 13 rebounds).
  • Jayden Nunn (Sr.) gave the Bears a great lift off the bench (10 points, three rebounds, two steals). He was efficient and gritty.

Needs Work

  • Freshman point guard Rob Wright (zero points on six shots, four assists and three turnovers) had a night to forget.
  • Fifth-year senior guard Jeremy Roach (6 points on nine shots, zero assists, zero rebounds, one block) had another clunker of a game since returning from a concussion.
  • Langston Love (RJr.) and Jalen Celestine (Sr.) also had rough games. The offense was not where it needed to be. Credit Arizona, but Baylor should be more efficient on that end, especially with the smaller lineup.
  • The 3-point shooting was rough, and the Bears needed to make a couple more 3s to have a chance.
