Top Quotes

Head coach Nicki Collen on the status of star forward Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (Jr.):

  • “She has a knee injury. We don't know how long she'll be out. She'd day-to-day right now. Hopefully, it heals quickly. It's not season-ending — we hope.”

Forward Bella Fontleroy (Jr.) on stopping Iowa State’s offense:

  • “They’re a good team. They shoot the ball really well, but I think with our pressure defense, we’ll be able to make some of those catches uncomfortable for them and not give them as many clean looks at the 3.”

At least IowaSt is making it fairly easy for a quick makeup call.

Ok....people....you do know what you're supposed to do when sitting behind the basket, correct?? I was just wondering because aside from the band and a token few, nobody's even standing during free throws! Ridiculous! On the off season, we need to bring in the student section of like KU, Duke, BYU to give a class on how to cheer for your team. My Lord. Do better Bear Fans.

When the ball went through the net on the FT Abraham tapped the ball to the end line. White Ref called a delay of game which was our 2nd and resulted in a technical.

So far our 4Q performance today is rivaling our 4th quarter in Boulder with a 38 pt lead and the scrubs playing 8-9 minutes.

Wow, was that fun.

Defense! - Perhaps our most impressive defensive performance of the season, we were active and aggressive, we disrupted passing lanes, and we often swarmed Crooks to make entry passes difficult. We had 10 Steals, 7 Blocks, and held Iowa State to 34% shooting. That's a winning formula.
Bella! - My vote for MVP of the game, she was excellent on both ends of the floor. She filled up the stat sheet. 14 points on efficient 6-8 shooting, active on the boards with 6 rebounds, she had 5 steals (!), and 3 assists. She drew the difficult defensive assignment of Addy Brown, and held her to 8 points. After drawing 2 fouls in the first half, she didn't fould at all in the 2nd half and was able to stay on the floor for 30 key minutes. She also had the most exciting energy play of the game, the tip and steal off the inbound, with a pass from her knees to Sarah for a 3 pointer. Take a bow, Miss Fontleroy.
Yaya! - Outstanding game. Leading scorer with 15, and also was active on defense. Yaya has now polished her game so that she's much more under control with her drives. For 2 years, Sarah was the only player who could create on her own when the shot clock was ticking down, but now with Yaya we have two creators. That's going to matter in the tournaments.
Netty! - What an outstanding job battling Crooks down low. Statistically it looks like a draw (11 points to 14, 6 rebounds to 7), but Netty was key to Crooks drawing 4 fouls by the early 4th Quarter, deflected several passes, and often kept Crooks occupied by herself so that we could man up on the other players on the perimeter.
Kyla! - Was this her best game at Baylor? 14 minutes, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, and an active presence. That's the formula for Kyla, and she excelled in her role today.
Waiata! - Was this her best game at Baylor? I certainly don't remember her playing 19 minutes in any other critical matchups this year, and she was playing with more confidence and flow today; she was mixing it up and in the game.
Jada! - led the team with 35 minutes, and consistently made good decisions with the basketball to help us create good shots.

Well done today, Lady Bears!

Excellent post! Very good effort from Kyla today. Nicki commented on her specifically saying she played her role really well except for 90 seconds when she got too tired. Nicki says that she has difficulty playing through fatigue and so that's when she likes to switch Kayla out for her.

I think Aliyah can also create her own shot very well and there are many times Jada does as well. On the days we are not shooting well I wish we would have all of these players attacked the rim more to try to get free throws. I would also love to see Jada more consistently take her free-throw level shot. That is the shot that killed Virginia Tech and was basically in defensible.

You are right, Wise played very well and I agree that she appearedmuch more comfortable. However, I do wish she would hunt her own shot a little more often. She bypasses many open threes and she has a nice shooting stroke. She could also get to the rim and also has a nice mid range shot. I wish she would be a little more aggressive at taking that when open.. really love the effort on D from everyone. I hope Yaya can continue to remain focused in on her defense as that will get her even more playing time.

I think Amayah Garcia was here today? Did anyone else confirm that?
