Postgame Podcast & Thoughts: Cincinnati 69, Baylor 67

Cincinnati (17-11; 7-10) outlasts a strong second half comeback from Baylor (16-12; 8-9) to beat the Bears 69-67. Next up for the Bears is a game against an improving Oklahoma State team at Foster Pavillion on Saturday March 1st at 7pm.

Good

  • Guard VJ Edgecombe (Fr.) came alive in the second half. He finished with 18 points and gets his 3-point shot going again (5-8) against a good defensive team.
  • I loved the fight Baylor showed in the second half to claw back and give itself a chance to win or put the game in overtime on the final possession.
  • Baylor did a good job making guard Jizzle James (So.) work for his points (18 points but 20 shots to get there).
  • Outrebounding Cincy 31-29 is impressive.

Bad

  • This is not a high basketball IQ team. Some of the decisions, at times, are baffling.
  • Baylor really struggles to score at the rim; everything is hard offensively right now.

Ugly

  • You don’t win games if you are on the wrong side of a 22-4 run. Too big of a hole.
  • This team reminds me of 2011, one of my least favorite Baylor teams to watch. I’ll be there for the last three games. Let’s steal two out of three and sneak into the dance.
