Baylor Basketball
Postgame Podcast & Thoughts: No. 3 Houston 65, Baylor 61
Good
- I liked the effort on the glass; the Bears outrebounded the Cougars 38-33, Norchad Omier (5Sr.) with 16 of those rebounds.
- Being under 10 turnovers against Houston is a good number.
- VJ Edgecombe (Fr.) was fun to watch; he gave us plenty of highlights from Waco this season.
Bad
- Officiating, plus the physicality of play, made this game almost unwatchable. Just such a terrible brand of basketball, the officials lost control of this game in my view by allowing too much holding, contact on screens while moving, shoves in the back on rebounds, lower body contact on drives. This definitely favors older, more physical teams. Houston is smart to build their roster around that. Will it get called tighter in the NCAA tournament? We shall see.
- Jeremy Roach (5Sr.), what a disappointing year for him compared to expectations. I do hear he’s been putting in a lot of time refining his golf game, however, and has gotten pretty darn good at golf. I don’t know if it is related to his on-the-court performance. Everyone needs stress release.
- The guards, in general, were short, had trouble getting by you with the dribble, and certainly didn’t shoot the 3-pointer nearly as well as expected. The roster was not put together well in hindsight; I thought the coaching staff did a decent job, given what they had to work with. Curious to hear other's thoughts?
