Baylor redshirt senior forward Jalen Celestine has entered the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-7 sharpshooter averaged 7.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 38% from the floor and 36% from beyond the arc. Celestine missed four games at the beginning of conference play with a high ankle sprain and was unable to practice for over a month.

Originally from Ajax, Ontario, Celestine started his collegiate career at California and spent four years with the Golden Bears before transferring to Baylor last offseason. He missed 2022-2023 while recovering from a torn ACL and will utilize his extra season of COVID eligibility from 2021-2022.

So Rob Wright, Josh O and Marino are the only 3 from this year's roster who are returning. I didn't count Carr because he's never played yet. I'm gonna need AI just to help me keep up with who plays for whom next year and then try to remember for whom they played the year before that.

In the modern transfer portal era, a coach has to be able to take a bunch of random dudes every year and make something happen with them. I'm not sure that is Scott Drew's forte.

I have a feeling the average age of a head college basketball coach is soon going to fall from the early 50s to the mid-upper 30s. I can't imagine there will be that many older coaches wanting to go through this every year.

This is good. I want multi year guys but I'm glad we're not repeating mistakes and told him he'd find playtime elsewhere. It's not in our budget it pay a guy like this.

Very loose definition of "sharpshooter."

Not a big loss. Ok shooter, but that's all he wanted to do. One of the worst defensive guys we've had.

He was another whiff from the portal at least as far as this past season went. When you're a one trick pony and the one trick is being a 3 point sniper, 36% doesn't cut it. Agree that this is not a big loss.

The money guys at the Schools driving the NIL inflation will likely find the money to get name coaches. What do you bet Aggie will pay their next HC? They will want a name, not taking a risk on a younger coach. Coaches may hate the new environment but are being compensated to deal with it.

I fully understand players not ready for NBA taking the portal money run. My sense though is a high % of them regret their portal decisions later on. This is a system that works for the guys getting a percentage of the NIL deal, and no one else.

Wish we could have just done a straight up trade, would have been cheaper.
