Good
- The offense was efficient from the opening tip and consistent in both halves. The Bears put up 1.21 points per possession and only turned the ball over four times, which is a winning number.
- Norchad Omier (5Sr.) was terrific, with 29 points and 15 rebounds. He also blocked a couple of shots and took care of the basketball (one turnover: it might have been an offensive foul).
- Bears fought hard to win, and even though they trailed by double digits a lot of the game, this team plays like it cares.
Concerns
- Obviously, you can’t give up 52 points in the first half and expect to win any basketball game; it was just a terrible defensive effort. Sure, Texas Tech has to make the shots, but so many layups and wide-open 3s, and one of Tech’s best players, Chance McMillan (Sr.), was hobbled.
- Speaking of hobbled, another day, another Langston Love (RJr.) injury. A lot of our inconsistency has to be attributed to relying on him.
- Coming into the season, I expected this to be a great 3-point shooting team. You had a bunch of proven guys who had shot over 40% from 3 (Love, Jeremy Roach, Jayden Nunn, Jalen Celestine) and we thought VJ Edgecombe might approach that. As a team, Baylor is below 35% (only five Scott Drew teams have been below that watermark).
