Cincinnati wing Dan Skillings has committed to head coach Scott Drew and Baylor and becomes the seventh transfer portal addition for the Bears' 2025 class, joining Tennessee wing Cameron Carr, Wyoming guard Obi Agbim, Oregon State forward Michael Rataj, Omaha guard JJ White, High Point center Juslin Bodo Bodo and Rice forward Caden Powell.
Skillings, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound athletic wing, averaged 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game this season. He shot 61% from the charity stripe and 30% from beyond the arc on three attempts per game.
After a standout sophomore season in which Skillings averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game, he was expected to make a leap as an upperclassman, but he injured his knee early into his junior campaign and wasn’t the same player. There’s optimism that a fresh start will allow Skillings to return to who he was as a sophomore.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Skillings played at Roman Catholic High School and was the No. 41 prospect in the nation in the 2022 recruiting class. Skillings has played in 100 games across three seasons at Cincinnati and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Why The Fit Looks Good
Baylor has had success with a Big 12 wing transfer in the past. Jalen Bridges from West Virginia was terrific for the Bears as a rebounder, scorer and defender. There is value in having been through the Big 12 wars. Skillings fits the Bears’ “Rebuild the Culture” mantra. Toughness, defense, rebounding and wingspan are being emphasized. His 7-foot-2 wingspan gives Baylor a lot of options to play him at the two, three or four. Cincinnati was a top 25 defense the last two years, and he was a big part of that. His shooting numbers will hopefully improve with a change of scenery (30% from 3-point range and 61% from the foul line). But he was 36% from beyond the arc during conference play. Skillings racks up the stocks (steals and blocks). He was ranked toward the top in both categories of college basketball. Cincy fans called him “Baylor Dan” for a reason. He had some big games against Baylor in a Bearcat uniform, including a 24-point game in a 62-59 road loss in Foster Pavilion last year.
