VJ Edgecombe Selected by Philadelphia with 3rd Pick, Becomes Highest-Ever Drafted Bear

Baylor basketball fifth-year senior forward Norchad Omier has signed an Exhibit 10 with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After not being selected in the 2025 NBA Draft, Omier was one of the top undrafted players, joining teammate VJ Edgecombe (No. 3, Philadelphia) as the other Bear to make the leap to the NBA.

En route to a First-Team All-Big 12 season in his lone year in Waco, Omier averaged 15.7 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 56% from the field, 29% from beyond the arc and 75% from the charity stripe.

“He’s one of those guys who’s going to find his way into the league; it might be the backdoor or side door, but at the end of the day, rebounding is valuable and he’s as good as anybody,” Baylor head coach Scott Drew said of Omier earlier this month.

Drew added, “Whatever he left college with, double-double-wise, is not going to be passed anytime soon. With him, he’s going to continue to work, and the more you work, the better you get. I think his skill level has gotten better and will continue to get better, and that’s the last piece to his puzzle to become someone who can shoot 40% from 3 and do some other things offensively.”

Omier recorded a Baylor-record 22 double-doubles on the season and ended his career with 90 career double-doubles, the second-most all-time. His 1,694 career rebounds rank as the ninth-most all-time in the NCAA.

“Norchad has an NBA skill, and it’s that he can really rebound,” ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas said of Omier leading up to the 2025 NBA Draft. “He’s an undersized big guy, but he’s a relentless rebounder on both ends of the floor. He’s really strong and can carve out space. He’s not one of those guys who live above the room, but he can clear a lot of space below. The rebounding, extra-possession piece is his ticket to making an NBA team.”
