Baylor (1-0) falls behind by double digits early but uses a 34-11 run to close out the first half and take control of the game. They end up defeating UT Rio Grand Valley 95-81. The Bears were led by Sophomore Cameron Carr who scored 28 points.
Positives
- Defensive rebounding has been a focus. Baylor only allowed 2 offensive rebounds all night and grabbed 94% of all defensive rebound opportunities. They are currently ranked #1 in the nation in defensive rebounding after that result.
- After a terrible start, the Bears had a stretch for most of the game of efficient basketball. They end up with 1.23 points per possession on offense which is a solid number.
- It was great to see an efficient game from Obi Agbim. He has a 158 offensive rating on KenPom (highest on the team). He scores 16 points and dishes out 5 assists with no turnovers.
- Cameron Carr (28 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals), Tounde Yessoufou (24 points, 7 rebounds) and Dan Skillings Jr (15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) were all terrific for Baylor.
Concerns
- Free throw shooting was a little ragged (21-32). We would like to see that number better than 70%.
- Michael Rataj had a rough night (5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 turnovers). He just looks a step slow without much bounce. We need him to elevate to a higher level.
- Bench didn’t give us much production tonight (8 points, 8 rebounds). We need Caden Powell, Isaac Williams and JJ White to provide a spark on both ends for this team to be a contender in the Big12.
