Baylor (4-1) drops their first game of the season as St. John’s (4-2) leads from the opening tip and cruises to a 96-81 victory. Cameron Carr’s 27 points led the Bears in a losing effort.
Positives
- It was another outstanding rebounding effort. The Bears held a 48-34 rebounding edge, including 26 offensive rebounds (51% of their misses).
- Against St. John’s relentless ball pressure, 11 turnovers is a solid number.
- Cameron Carr continues to produce. He finishes with 27 points, his fourth game this year with over 20 points.
- Isaac Williams IV was impressive off the bench. He goes for 14 points. You love to see 4-5 from the foul line.
Concerns
- The shooting, especially at the rim, was bad. The Bears finish under 40% from inside the arc and only 32% from 3-point land (Carr was 5-8 from 3 to make it look somewhat respectable).
- Defensive effort and consistency were not great.
- Baylor gives up 1.33 points per possession. Maybe just one of those shooting nights for St. John’s, but so many open 3s and uncontested dunks/lay-ups.
- Obi Agbim and Dan Skillings had really poor games by their standards. That’s tough to overcome with a team that lacks depth. Tounde Yessoufou gave a lot of effort, but not an efficient night for him either.
