Baylor (5-1) closes out the Players Era Tournament with a 2-1 record as they cruise to a 91-81 victory over San Diego State (3-3). The Bears had 5 players in double figures led by Tounde Yessoufou's 18 points.
Positives
- Impressive resilience from this squad after getting rolled by St. John’s the day before. The Bears head into Thanksgiving on a high note by digging deep and winning the third game in three days, with such a short bench.
- 18-9 assist to turnover ratio is winning basketball.
- The Bears did a great job in Vegas on the defensive glass holding all their opponents to under a 30% offensive rebounding rate.
- Isaac Williams IV continues to improve his shooting. After shooting 45% from the foul line last year, he is currently 74% at Baylor and he’s also made 57% of his 3-point attempts.
- The balance and unselfishness from this team is impressive. The box score shows seven guys that scored between seven and 18 points (although I think Caden Powell was credited with two of Obi Agbim’s made free throws).
Needs Work
- I think Tounde Yessoufou can be a great defender, but he loses focus too easily. He’s giving up too many straight line drives and having mental lapses defensively.
- A little sloppy down the stretch defensively, need to maintain focus or the Bears can end up with a Brazil situation again.
