Baylor rising redshirt junior running back Bryson Washington plans to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Poised for a breakout season as a sophomore, Washington battled injuries throughout 2025, finishing the year with 788 rushing yards and 154 carries to go along with six rushing touchdowns. While he didn’t miss a game with an injury, he was clearly limited.

Over the final two months of the season, Washington had just three games with double-digit carries, with the highest mark (14) coming in the 55-28 loss to No. 13 Utah on Nov. 15. The Franklin native had more games with less than 25 rushing yards (4) than games with 15-plus carries (3).

After redshirting in 2023, Washington had the best season for a freshman running back in Baylor program history, breaking the freshman school record for rushing yards (1,028). Across a four-game stretch to close the regular season, Washington had four straight 100-plus yard games, totaling 625 yards and 10 touchdowns in that span; he was later named a Freshman All-American by The Athletic.

During his high school career at Franklin, Washington was a four-year starter at running back for the Lions, leading them to 32 straight wins and consecutive 3A-D1 State Championships. Washington totaled over 2,000 yards on the ground and 30 touchdowns as a senior. He was a three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and stayed in Central Texas, choosing Baylor over SMU, Houston and Arkansas.

The Bears are expected to return rising redshirt junior Dawson Pendergrass, who missed the 2025 season with an injury, as well as former four-star recruits Caden Knighten and Michael Turner, and will add four-star true freshman Ryelan Morris to the running back room.

The transfer portal window this offseason runs from Jan. 2 to Jan. 16.

Boo Linda,Mack, the BOR and Dave who continues to throw us into deeper and deeper depths of mediocrity! We are quickly becoming the laughing stock of college football! You can't blame Bryson, who would want to play for this losing program?

Let's focus on the word " former" because he's not the player today that he was as a freshman - until he can show ability to stay healthy. As many other players are doing - go make the $$ somewhere because NFL prospects aren't likely. Baylor would be better to focus on freshman who can get good minutes around sophomore / juniors who we can lock in for 2-3 year deals. Anyone entering their last year of eligibility should walk - it's the last chance to make coin (especially if not a likely draft pick)

No on that deserves to be in the P4 wants to play for us.

Why? Because we have no fan engagement
Terrible coaching
And an administration that simply doesn't care.

Oh and old man Mclane won't allow alcohol sales. Would surprise me if he was the one that got pissed off at the fans that took their shirts off in the upper deck.

Honestly I wish you guys and the administration would just be straight with us. "Hey guys we are moving to a rice university model where we will be investing 95% of funds into academics and dropping out of the P4."

Which until and unless this insanity stops, is probably what we and a bunch of other P4 programs should or will be forced to do. Universities were not meant to be professional sports leagues. If you can't spend with reckless abandon, even if you stay P4 or whatever it might be, you would be at the bottom of the group with perennial losing records with no realistic hopes or way to make it any other way, which is no fun at all.

It ain't the way it used to be. There is no level playing field and if that means spending oodles on coaches and players to the detriment of everything else, well....I don't know that it is the smart thing to do or even the right thing to do with reference to what, 99%+ of the other students.

I have walked away from a lot of my sports interests the last couple of weeks. Haven't watched much of anything. I am probably better off for it. There is nothing wrong with college athletics getting back to its roots.

From his perspective he is marketable and he doesn't currently have an offensive line to block for him.

If I had 5 years to maximize my bank account, I'd enter the transfer portal. Texas had 4 running backs enter the portal. No surprise BW would test the waters.

Maybe Baylor resigns him, maybe not. Regardless, I think this is the correct move on his part.

I do hope he has an experienced qualified agent working on his behalf.

100% agree on the last point. But they will never do it. It would take courage, and the easier play is just too retract the antenna, and pretend like they are attempting to compete. But frankly, I would have respect for them if they made that call. I wouldn't be happy about it, but I bet I would still enjoy the tailgates just as much.
