Baylor rising redshirt senior EDGE Emar’rion Winston will enter the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

Winston started all 12 contests this season and totaled 26 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and a team-high three sacks, with a season-high two sacks coming in Baylor’s 55-28 loss to No. 13 Utah on Nov. 15.

The 6-foot-4, 247-pound prospect played the fifth-most snaps (586) on Baylor’s defense this season and had the ninth-highest rush defense grade (65.2) and fifth-highest pass-rushing grade (66.6) on the team, according to Pro Football Focus.

Winston was a four-star prospect and considered a top-30 EDGE prospect in the country in the 2022 recruiting class. The Portland native began his playing career at Oregon, appearing in 30 games over three years, before transferring to Baylor last offseason.

Baylor now faces a near-complete rebuild of its EDGE room through the transfer portal, as Winston becomes the latest portal entry, joining Matthew Fobbs-White, Kamauryn Morgan and Corey Kelly.

Is our entire team transferring? Thought we kept CDA to prevent the exodus?

Why does everyone capitalize "EDGE?" It's not an acronym for anything, to my knowledge.

It's become it's own position recently so it's capitalized like you would QB... TE.. RB.... 'edge of attack'.

All of those are acronyms for something longer, though. "EDGE" is just the entire position, but capitalized. It's stupid. If you want to call it Edge Rusher, cool, but then the acronym would be "ER." We don't abbreviate Tight End as "TIGHT." That would be stupid.

From the Internet.

Edge is capitalized in football because it's a modern, specific term for a hybrid pass-rushing role, often an Outside Linebacker (OLB) or Defensive End (DE) in different schemes, whose job is to attack the quarterback from the side of the offensive line, functioning like a distinct position rather than just a general descriptor. The term emerged to better classify players who rush from the "edge" of the line, blending skills from DE and OLB, and became more official after players like Khalil Mack excelled in these hybrid roles, leading to the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) adopting it.

Seriously wondering why anyone wants our defensive players from last year unless they see potential. Since Dandy Dave the defensive guru can't coach improvement then it's probably better to get some replacements to go with the new DC. That's our only hope to get better on defense at this point.
