LAWRENCE, Kansas – Baylor men’s basketball (11-6, 1-4) was blown out in frustrating fashion, 80-62, by the Kansas Jayhawks (13-5, 3-2) on Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
Wings Cameron Carr and Tounde Yessoufou carried the Bears on offense with 24 and 20 points, respectively, but got virtually no help in the defeat, with the rest of the team totaling just seven made field goals. The senior duo of Michael Rataj and Obi Agbim combined for 14 points and went 5-of-18 from the floor with three turnovers
The Bears were 22-of-61 (38%) overall from the field, compared to Kansas, which shot at an efficient clip of 51% (32-of-63), with over half of its total points (42) coming in the paint.
Following Baylor’s explosive 94-point performance in the road win over Oklahoma State on Tuesday, the offensive resurgence didn’t carry over into Friday as the Bears looked discombobulated early and got out to a sluggish start, trailing 19-4 at the 14:28 mark.
Meanwhile, Darryn Peterson, the five-star freshman and likely top-three pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, started the game on fire for the Jayhawks, scoring 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting. He finished the game with 26 points (11-13 FG) and three assists.
Carr and Yessoufou started to get the ball rolling for Baylor’s offense and kept the Bears afloat, combining for 31 of BU’s 37 points in the first half on a combined 10-of-18 from the floor.
Baylor’s star duo helped the Bears reclaim the lead at one point, but Kansas closed the half on a 7-0 run and took a 43-37 lead going into the halftime locker room. The Jayhawks had a clear advantage inside the post, outscoring the Bears in the paint, 22-to-12, in the first half.
As the second half got started, Carr and Yessoufou weren’t able to replicate their hot start and Kansas went on a 17-7, putting the game basically out of reach by the 12-minute mark.
Baylor shot 9-of-30 (30%) from the field in the second half and turned the ball over seven times. Agbim added nine late points with three 3-pointers.
The Jayhawks center, Flory Bidunga, dominated the Bears in the post, scoring 23 points, collecting 11 rebounds and collecting five blocks.
The Bears (11-6, 1-4) will return to Waco to face No. 15 Texas Tech (13-4, 3-1) at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Foster Pavilion. The game will be streamed on Peacock.
