WACO, Texas – Baylor senior outfielder Brooklyn Carter earned a spot on the 2026 Preseason All-Big 12 Softball squad, announced Wednesday by the league office.

The senior from Englewood, Calif., is coming off a career year for the Bears, leading the team in hits (51), stolen bases (22) and runs scored (51), appearing in all 54 games for head coach Glenn Moore.

The transfer from Washington is Baylor’s fifth preseason all-conference selection in the five-year history of the preseason squad. She also earned All-Pac 12 Freshman Team honors in 2023 after hitting .277 and stealing 28 bases for the Huskies.

Carter enters her senior year with the Bears boasting nearly 350 at-bats in 145 career games at the power-conference level. She will provide leadership for a team that returns a strong core of contributors from a season ago, along with a talented group of transfers and three D1 Softball, D100 Big 12 freshmen in Gianna Gusman, Harper Haas and Kaygen Marshall.

In addition to the All-Big 12 team, the conference announced its preseason poll, slotting the Bears into eighth. Voted on by the league’s coaches, Moore and BU have outperformed preseason expectations in 17 of his 25 seasons at Baylor.

BU opens the season a week from Thursday against No. 22 Mississippi State at 6:30 p.m. Baylor’s fifth opener against a ranked opponent in the last seven seasons kicks off the Getterman Classic, which runs through the Bears’ matchup with Northwestern State at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8.

As always the season will come down to pitching.
This year its 2 transfers, Creager (Arizona St) & Tanner (Tennessee), who will determine if BU is more than just mediocre.
