Top Quotes

Head coach Mitch Thompson on facing some extremely tough teams in the Bruce Bolt Classic:

  • “Your scheduling to try and find out a lot about yourself. We’re gonna learn again. We’re playing really good people. Ole Miss, Texas and UTSA are a combined 23-1 right now as a group. It’ll be a challenge, but that’s great. Our guys are excited about it. I’m excited about it. Let’s go see what we can get done.”

Head coach Mitch Thompson on the team’s offensive struggles:

  • “We’ve got to get the ball in play. There’s no doubt about it. We’ve got to continue to draw the free passes when they give us opportunities. We need to situationally hit. We need to get guys in scoring position and come through with the big hit. We need to come through with moving runners and handling the game. There’s a lot to like about what’s happened in the first eight games of the year. We’re playing young people. They’re getting experience. We’re playing really good defense. We’re pitching well. At times, our bats look pretty potent as well. We’re stealing bags, we’re athletic. We need to bring it all to the table this weekend.”

Redshirt sophomore catcher Brayden Buchanan on Baylor’s offensive mindset going into the Bruce Bolt Classic:

  • “We want to be as competitive as possible. Not necessarily as outcome-focused, but really just focused on our process at the plate and being super, super competitive. We struck out a lot last weekend. That’s a big area to focus on, with trying to move the ball, especially with runners on base this weekend.”

Senior reliever Caleb Bunch on what the Bears learned from the Round Rock Classic and taking those lessons into this weekend in Houston:

  • “We feel good. We played some really good teams last weekend and had some really good games as well. We’re going in hoping we can bring some [wins] out, and we’re ready to go. It showed us what kind of team we are, playing against three really good ballclubs, and being able to stay in those games after getting punched and punching right back shows the character of this team.”

My son just asked "why can't they throw the ball far? They just keep throwing it right into the ground"

I could live without the chortling announcers telling us ten times an inning how great UTSA is.

I mean, I've only watched a game and a half, but the team I'm watching right now is absolutely terrible. Mentally and physically

Down 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th. 3 whole hits through 5 to 10 for UTSA. Our weak hitting tradition continues.

I mean down by 7 and the runner tries to go 1st to 3rd on a single to center and is throw out by a mile. Need base runners and down to final 8 outs and we are running into outs.

9-4 headed to bottom of 7th.

Ok at least have 10 hits now but we're still going to lose big.

Another L tonight. I know UTSA is a damn good team but this is not the start that Mitch Thompson and this program needed. Two weekends in a row with good opportunities to build some momentum and confidence but go a combined 1-5. I have been trying to be hopeful for this baseball season (especially after how football and basketball have gone) but I am quickly losing any hopes I had. Gonna have to make some major improvements in order to be a tournament team and save Mitch's job.

Left fielder throws a two hopper to home allowing a run to score

Left fielder throws a two hopper to second baseman

Viewer, tires of watching poorly executed throws hands remote to wife to watch recorded episode of The Voice.

It was a bad night all around.

I remember when - and not that long ago - with rare exceptions here and there, UTSA was normally good for a mid-week win along the lines of SFA, Sam Houston State, and Texas State. Now, as the situation stands, I would trade teams with them in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Even if we would've gone 3-3 over the last two weekends it would have offered some hope, but early indications are this season is just going to be more of the same. Like a lot of people, I had high hopes when Thompson took over the program, but so far he is still not getting it done.

Haha. I mean I wonder if the outfielders have been threatened if they air mail the cut-off man. Seriously, go back and watch all throws made from the outfield. It's hilarious
