Baylor Baseball Adds Fifth Transfer Pitcher, Lands Fordham Lefty Beau Elson

Baylor baseball and head coach Mitch Thompson have rounded out their transfer portal class with a commitment from Fordham left-handed pitcher Beau Elson.

Elson becomes the fifth addition on the mound this offseason, joining Miami’s Tate DeRias, Bradley’s Davis Webb, Winthrop’s Brayden Gilley and Texas State’s Keller Eberly. The Bears also received a transfer portal commitment from Central Christian College of Kansas (NAIA) corner infielder/outfielder Kurt Ippolito.

This spring, the 6-foot-1, 208-pound Elson was a member of the Rams’ weekend rotation, starting 13 games and fielding a 5.38 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and .288 batting average against. He posted a 6-4 record, tossed 68.1 frames and struck out 60 batters, while issuing 24 free passes.

As a true freshman, the Hadley, Massachusetts, native was Fordham’s top bullpen arm, making a team-high 22 appearances. Elson tallied 50.1 innings on the mound, to go along with a 6.44 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 2.53 B/AVG and a 6-3 win-loss record.

Baylor’s set to return pitchers Zack Wallace and Mason Green, who will return from injury, while losing Lucas Davenport to the MLB Draft; Davenport was selected in the fifth round by the Boston Red Sox. Elson, a rising junior, will have three years of eligibility remaining, assuming “five-for-five” is the norm moving forward.
