BREAKING: Baylor lands JUCO OL Johncarlo Valentin

It didn't take long after an official visit to Baylor that ended on Sunday for junior college offensive lineman Johncarlo Valentin‍ (6-5, 330) to give his verbal pledge to Matt Rhule and the staff. Originally of Imhotep Inistitute in Philadelphia, Valentin spent his two years following high school at ASA College in New York.

Valentin committed to the Bears on Sunday Morning before leaving Waco. Valentin announced his commitment over SnapChat by posting a video of McLane Stadium with the title "my new home."

Valentin committed to Baylor over offers from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Temple and Texas. Valentin was part of Oklahoma's 2016 class where he was ranked a four-star prospect according to the industry average.

The addition of Valentin to Baylor's 2018 class gives Baylor a total of six offensive linemen, joining Jackson Kimble‍, Ylijaah Hall‍, Casey Phillips‍, Princeton Pines‍ and Connor Galvin‍. Valentin is Baylor's lone junior college prospect in the class.

"There were a number of us just crying out to God." - Baylor Regent Dennis Wiles

During the meeting, one of the regents started crying and pounding on the table, saying "Not my Baylor," and "Why do we have to listen to any more of this?"

Thank you, Johncarlo, for choosing Baylor. It is a position we desperately need senior leadership in.

And thank you, staff, for taking an OL transfer.

I've read that he can play Center or Guard, but he seems sort of tall and heavy for a Center. I wonder, if he ends up taking a Guard spot, is Xavier Newman capable of playing Center? With a couple new faces along the OL and some seasoning from last year, that unit may end up being substantially improved.

Great news. What is the status of the O line coach that broke his hip? Is he gonna coach in spring?

Seems like it. I think he's in rehab now, but back home. I suppose that is good but I know hip replacements/surgeries are a life long issue. Wonder if we're saving that 10th coach spot now for a coach to help in OL?

Indeed, or someone on staff is an incredible recruiter.

Baylor also has a lot to offer, beyond football.

This is another great get.

Doesn't the Clemson transfer get to play next year too.

Yes, Jake Fruhmorgen, the Clemson transfer, is slated to replace Mo Porter as our starting left tackle next year. If Valentin can play right tackle, it will push Pat Lawrence inside, where he's better suited, and should make our line considerably better next year.

We'll also have Christian Beard, the walk-on transfer from UCF, and last year's redshirt class joining the mix, which should increase competition and depth at each spot dramatically.

So with Valentin and 5 others joining the OL ranks, how many O-lineman do we have total? Can someone detail all of that?

If I counted correctly, we'll have 17 scholarship linemen next season. And Beard, while not a scholarship guy, adds some experienced depth.

Much better depth, and more better players on the OL, means a better offense.

Baylor going bowling next year.

If you are a 4 star coming out of high school, why do they downgrade you to a 3 star? Is it just because he had to go JUCO instead?

Real good sign that both Texas and Arkansas offered recently; and the young man said "pass."

Word is his nickname is "tiny"... they say he can squat the weight equivalent of the offensive line.

Also Kaz Kazadi calls him for advice on how to make other players stronger...

If a mountain were to relocate, it would ask him to handle the details

McLane stadium is being retrofitted with a larger tunnel just so he can run onto the field with the team.

Eddie Williams is donating an extra $10MM just so the turf can be reinforced under his massive cleates.

Blacmar moving to Center

Keith and Lawrence to guard and Malin moves to tackle.

Hope Teck can man back into TE. With our TEs mostly being young next year, he'd be nice to have there and mentor a bunch of young TEs.

Welcome Johncarlo! I think it is sweet to have international dudes join our team. It is a real gift to speak two languages and Italian is not an easy language to learn for sure. I am also a fan of anyone that likes wine and cheese. SIC 'EM BEARS!!!!!

Looks like he has comparable measurables to Kyle Fuller and he turned out okay.

This is a very nice get for Baylor. Valentin originally committed to Oklahoma after HS after entertaining a flood of offers from upper P5 teams. Can only guess why he had to go the JuCo route but as a native Philadelphian, I can tell you the area is producing some great prospects. 3 Philadelphians were on Georgia's roster and our city's top '18 prospect, Christian Barmore, a Temple verbal, flipped to Oregon before faxing his letter ultimately to Satan @ Alabama.

I've only commented a couple times here but my belief was if Rhule (and Staff) could continue his recruiting prowess, Baylor would be back.

We all hope you're right.

We also hope these big guys from up north don't pass out in summer Practice in Waco.

work on those false steps at snap and we have landed a decent tackle, I like that he tends to finish blocks, would like to see how he blocks away from the play...

How many scholarships can Baylor offer before Feb 7th? Also, Xavier Newman was one of their two highest rated recruits last year where does he fit in on the ol this year?
