I thought we were #16. Or was that a BS ranking?

It was accurate at the time according to one recruiting site. Hence the recurring problem: Baylor is very given to that kind of cherrypicking, because it fosters facade building. Then, when reality arrives, we just look silly.

I thought this was supposed to be our best rated class ever? I'm confused. It looks like there are a few classes that were rated higher according to this list.

Recruiting rankings take someone else's opinion of a bunch of athletes and lump them together under the assumption that each team needs all of everything.

Now, it's always better to have the higher ranked athletes than not, given the choice, but managing a college football team is deeper than raw numbers. What do you need? Who's available? What's your recruiting footprint? Does a player need to start immediately, or can he afford to learn for a season?

What Baylor really needs right now is a room full of All-Big 12 caliber OL. Those just can't be plucked out of high schools. Selecting high school OL and building them up is a talent that can make you millions of you figure it out. Failing that, Baylor got "good enough". Just getting the injured healthy and the transfers eligible will be like adding 4 extra recruits at a position of need.

I wish Baylor had a LB or two. You can always hope a SS gets bigger or spins down, but this class needed at least one to make me comfortable. Considering all the player transfers after "the troubles", the roster still has holes in it. However, the ball handling positions are very well attended.

Compared to everyone else on a raw score, the class is down the list. Compared to Baylor's needs, it's considerably above expectation. Compared to recent events and 1-11, it's over the moon.

Considering we had 1 freaking win last year this is the best class ever. I think Matt Rhule is an awful game coach but this is a crazy good recruiting job.

My problem is Briles system allowed a class with less talent to beat a school with more talent. Rhules system is the exact opposite. It requires superior talent to win. Meaning we never beat OU or UT and probably not TCU because Patterson is more like Briles with maximizing talent.

I think a lot of people are ok with that because they only understand old school football which they like and they don't understand that Baylor will never get the kind of offensive and defensive line that Alabama has. I like winning. I like beating more talent with a better system. But that is just me.
