ARLINGTON, Texas – Baylor baseball notched a 9-1 win over UT Arlington on Tuesday evening at Global Life Park. The Bears (5-5) used a season-high 17 hits and nine runs, along with stellar bullpen work, to defeat the Mavericks (4-6).

Trailing 1-0 after UTA scored in the third inning, BU rallied for a huge, six-run fifth. Josh Bissonette led off with a double and scored on a Cole Haring one-out double. After a two-out error let Shea Langeliers reach, Davis Wendzel doubled to give BU a 2-1 lead. Andy Thomas followed with a two-run single, and after a Nick Loftin single, Richard Cunningham delivered an RBI single. A wild pitch scored Baylor’s fifth run of the inning.

In the eighth, Baylor added to the lead with three more runs. Davion Downey led off with a triple, Wendzel walked and Thomas singled to load the bases. Cunningham then roped a two-out, two-run single, and a wild pitch scored another run for a 9-1 lead that stood.

BU reliever Ryan Leckich (1-0) earned the win with 4.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. UTA starter David Moffat (0-3) took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

“[Our hitting coming alive] kind of started on Saturday against Texas A&M. We did a really good job, we just didn’t get the big hit when we needed it. Today, we were able to take advantage of some of their miscues. I was really happy with the offense today, just continuing what we’ve been doing. We battled and had good at-bats.” Baylor Head Coach Steve Rodriguez

The Bears look to continue this winning streak against George Washington this weekend in a three-game series at Baylor Ballpark. The first game is Friday at 6:35 P.M.
