BREAKING: Baylor lands 2019 RB Qualan Jones

Trinity Christian School running back Qualan Jones‍ (5'11, 219) committed to Baylor on Saturday afternoon.

Baylor was Jones' first Power Five offer.

The offer came after a very impressive day at The Opening- Dallas Regional on Sunday. Jones ran a 4.49 40-yard dash and had a 37.1-inch vertical. He recorded a 130.35 SPARQ score at the event.

2019 Baylor Football Commitment List

This was Baylor's third commitment in the past 48-hours, as he joins Harrison White‍ and Myles Brooks‍ as recent commits. 

Baylor now has seven commitments in the 2019 recruiting class. Jones is the first running back to join the class.

Sub 4.5sec 40yd dash at 220lbs? And he apparently ran a 10.9sec 100m today? Yes, please. Doesn't have a hugely impressive offer list right now (how is that possible with his #s), but 247 says he basically doubled his rush yards on only 11 more carries from '16 to '17 (92 rush attempts and 538yds, to 103 attempts and 1193yds), so he must have quite the upside.

I think his HS level of competition has hindered his offer list. With his Sparq and track speed, it is just a matter of time until more P5 offers roll in. Glad we got to him first.

Yep.

His Sprint relay team also ran a 42.05. Pretty good for a small school.

Bet he could have made a run at the shot put championship. with the strength/quickness combo he has going.

It's better than most private schools. Deion Sanders is a "coach" there. They blew us up in the first round of the playoffs. I believe the RB from that team is heading for Ohio State.

Did he miss out on grades, Big Red had an article about him about a week ago, they still seemed to think he was theirs, though the article did mention that he couldn't have a slip up on grades.

He really doesn't need to miss that opportunity, with his dad dying of cancer when he was a kid, he has struggled tremendously when he isn't active in football season. Depression, whatever you want to call it. Not having his dad has really had a negative impact on him.

Hope he makes it.

My I hope not. The article written 04/30/18 didn't indicate that, although he wasn't at school that day and it was as though the athletic director coach whomever the authority was told him to go home and decompress.

Seems he has some very significant emotional issues he never has resolved, over his dad. At one point his mom was worried before Trinity, that he had given up on life. He has been to three High Schools, so that alone could cause transcript issues if you were a marginal student.

All I can say is I sure hope not. I'll see if there is any update out there if I can.
